I was just at my dealer this morning. They had six different M cars (no M2) on the showroom floor. All had MPSS except a M240 which had Pirellis. My M2...came with Contis.

All season tires are for minivans. This is an M2 were talking about.
Rear wheel drive performance car...remember? I'm in Canada. That said, where I am we get less snow than say Buffalo, Montana, Dakotas. I use winter tires on my F30 and it is xdrive. If you're going to drive the car in the winter then you shouldn't use summer tires. I'm not saying you can't...I'm saying you shouldn't. Even the "best driver" can hit a patch of black ice in the winter and summer tires are not going to handle it well. You have a better chance with winters. So for the sake of $1K, your $60K car will be in the ditch, or guardrail, or worse. One way to look at winter tires is as another form of insurance...most days you don't need it, but when you do, it's nice that it's there. Why would you have all seasons in the summer? This is when you put performance tires on the car and DRIVE IT! So as someone up there ^^ said...if you're going to have two sets of tires why get summers and all seasons...doesn't make any sense. If you live in Florida or the south of Spain, then I guess your good with just summer tires. and I hate you. Well maybe not the guys in Florida. Because it's Florida. |

Both are on 19" wheels and tires as i have an X 1 M sport and the tire width is 255/35/19 at the rear.... a mere 10 mm narrower than the M2.. Agree on your comments about torque but you are selling the AS3+ bit with regards to compound. It does handle snow, even with torque. hz101 is in the D.C. area.. I have lived there and in Indiana which both are moderate climates where snowfall can at times be heavy.. but often there are months where there is mostly rain and cold. I generally agree with your comments on tires however.. keep in mind... a recommendation for a person that is in NB.. or. the Upper peninisula in Michigan or Montana.. should still be tailored differently than to someone that is in the Midwest of the USA.. |

The Pilot sport was the *schiznit* at the time .. just like the MPSS is today. The MPSS gave much better rear end grip to the 1M and the MPSS dealt better with track usage and mid to high temps ( up to 80s and low 90s). I expect that the P4S will clearly be demonstrably better than the MPSS such that in just the same fashion .. you won't ever go back. |

Having experienced the difference on my 1M from the 5 year old designed Michelin Pilot sport to the MPSS In 2012ish... I expect that the P4S will clearly be demonstrably better than the MPSS such that you won't ever go back.

I thought the member who posted was from Baltimore - I don't know what their snow situation is like, but I figured they'd get enough to justify snow tires. As for the AS3s, my opinion is based on the experience I had with the tires, so I'm selling them only as short as they treated me haha. In general they did not inspire confidence and put me in a tough spot or two, so I honestly can't recommend them vs getting something like the Alpin4. |

I bought this car because of its performance, so I personally don't want to sacrifice that in any realistic conditions, including by using all-seasons. I feel like I'm doing my part to improve the overall pool of responsible motorists by using the right equipment for the situation. Also, you might think now is the right time to look for snow tires as they go out of season (like buying a snowblower), but I don't think that's actually the case. You'll have a better tire selection in fall/early winter, and Apex actually ran a group buy on their wheels mounted with Alpins in the October time frame IIRC. I'd hold off and look for something like that when the time comes. |

I'm like you, so I invested in a dedicated winter set just for the piece of mind. I think you could get by with all seasons, but I'd rather be safer.

Yep that's right. Best time to buy winter tires is August. That's when the sales go on because summer is winding down but people aren't freaking out to buy them because snow is coming. It's one of the slowest - if not the slowest - month for tire sales.

My M2 is only used around town in nice weather and never tracked so the Contis I received are fine as the initial set for my use.
I've never had the Michelins so I can't make a comparison. Unless you track the car and/or are made of money, I'd say wear out the Contis (it won't be hard since the M2 is a beast) if you get them and then check the reviews on http://www.tirerack.com to make a suitable choice (current types shown below) for your needs.

Sorry folks, can we stay on topic? I just wanted to know what tires came on recent M2's delivered. Not a debate between summer vs all-seasons tires.

Go drive a 316d or Camry if you don't drive your M2 in a capacity that benefits from PSS tires. On a related note, I recently put S007As on my car. At this point they feel somewhere in between a PSS and RE71R. Stiff sidewalls. We'll see how they do on track. |
