Sounds like a lot of posters in this thread enjoy the challenge of a MT more than the performance associated with the DCT . . . cool, but why not just take up golf and drive a DCT to the course?

Throwback photo of me teaching a young friend how to drive a stick.. She didn't stall once, thanks to BMW's intuitive anti-stall feature but I lead her to believe it was stillz

https://www.reddit.com/r/BMW/comment..._of_antistall/

BMW makes it so easy for novice to operate their modern manual transmission by including driver assistance features such as hill-hold, rev-matching, anti-stall, auto clutch restart, when ASS is active and you stall, ect..

Coming and learning to drive a manual on a $500 Honda CRX with a leaky exhaust really makes you appreciate the simplicity of BMW's offerings, even the Mini Cooper JCW was such a breeze to operate.

So this isn't a real manual then, if you ask someone driving $500 CRX? Got it.

No, It's still manual but it doesn't require you to slip the clutch in order to get the car moving, which is arguably the hardest part of a driving a stick, for a beginner.

What I'm saying is going from one to the other, it's almost a night and day difference and by BMW taking most of the complications out of operating a manual, makes the task almost second nature.

+1

I have no issues with the new assistance technology, Hell it makes me look like a better driver. lol But I agree there is a distinctive difference in driving experience between a new manual and an older manual transmission. That is what makes cars so much fun they all have their own little quirks and experiences...kind of reminds me of something else...maybe that is why a lot of people give their cars girls names???

Don't worry, guys. It's like religion. One can never convince the other to switch side by discussion.

Ironically though, the 6MT will be in the upcoming M2/M3/M4 where as a few years ago people think it won't last and DCT will take over...

Strange how things turn out

BMW knows the manual option is their saving grace, in the automotive enthusiast community.

I know they would just love to save a ton a money by only offering one transmission option, across the board but they can't deny the demand for a third pedal.

I said it before and I'll say it again; if BMW didn't offer a stick, I wouldn't be here.. Same reason I'm not currently not lurking in the Alfa or Audi forums, even though that's what all my friends currently drive..

My point is that these are some the very things people on here make about a manual being so engaging and "real". So in a manual, its ok to pick and choose which assist features these days are ok, as long as you are mashing a clutch? See I view the DCT the same way, its an evolutionary technology, that provides a great experience without mashing the clutch.

Really bro, DCT are many layers away from a manual transmission, plain and simple.

You're overreaching and attempting to convince yourself they're the same but factually, they are completely different in operation.

The anti-stall assistant feature doesn't replace the manual experience, it just makes the pedal/throttle modulation easier to operate. The vehicle can still stall, if you have no idea what you're doing. Those that experience this know exactly what I'm referring to.

Had the DCT or ZF8 manual gear overwrite been similar as a typical clutch pedal operation, BMW would not still be offering it in a 2023 model vehicle because, as you're implying; they're all the same and would be a practice in redundancy.

Poochie, I think I’m actually going to go out and teach my partner how to drive stick here in the next week or two. She doesn’t like driving and hasn’t owned a car in years but she’s worried she might have to drive me somewhere in an emergency situation. Should be pretty easy to learn on the M2c.

Tooling around in the mountains in a 1974 Ford F-150 manual transmission with no power steering...now THAT is a great way to learn to drive stick!

That's sweet and it's an easy way to win some points and share an experience together..

On BMW manuals, what I was explaining is for a novice, they don't need to feather the clutch, as in balancing the gas and clutch pedal, they simply just need to come off the clutch slowly, without gas and the car would move off the line, without stalling. From what I understand, some motorcycles comes with this standard and is referred to as "Clutch Control." I'm not a bike guy, so I just took their word.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clutch_control

It was such a cool and surprising feature that I first discovered, in a Mini Cooper, way back in my earlier days.

On other vehicles without this feature, teaching a beginner, they would typically slip the shit out of the clutch, to not stall and get the car going but BMWs help out and makes the task very intuitive, for the driver.

Lol guess u havent driven many manuals. A 30 year old car will move if you slowly lift the clutch without giving it gas lol. It will use the around 1000 rpm of engine resting. Lol. You think that's a feature of the bmw lol hahahaha

Is that literal or figurative? I mean, is BMW going to only offer a (1) true MT or (2) automatic with no manual mode in future models? In other words, literally no more DCT?

I think it's great that BMW offers the automatic/DCT since that's what ladies prefer.

Cannot speak for the ladies but, as a man, I know I sure as heck appreciate access to the likes of a PDK and DCT.
