I'm glad that BMW gave us choices, but I'm sad that it literally breeds confirmation bias and has divided the community so. |

My set up now with the AA res EL mid makes the S55 sound much better. The resonated version is the way to go for the S55. IMO...

for sure but now no one talks about it anymore, E46 is praised universally now pretty much but every time I hear one the sound is metallic, it really reminds me of the S55 in ways but the difference is how people see it, e46 incredible, s55 vacuum cleaner. I personally don't mind either and would love to have an E46 to add to the m2 And we can all agree though that nothing touches the E90 |

I don't think so, I think it's somewhat expected because enthusiasts on message boards (not the lurkers) are passionate, so some ribbing is always going to be present. I do think a lot of it would go away if the N55 just had an S designation. People would still be talking about the classic front end, sound and ability to run 18" wheels of the OG, and the seats, M buttons, mirrors, bespoke front end, and superior track prowess and power of the Comp, but I don't think it would be as heated.
The thing that really saves the OG in this regard, other than the fact that BMW says it's an M-Car, is the 1M, which is one of the most desired M-Cars ever, yet it doesn't carry an S code. Without question. |

The problem for me isn't the rasp on S55, it's the harmonic content of the sound. It sounds "agricultural" or a bit like a 2 stroke even if you remove the rasp. I find the induction noise of S55 to be pretty decent, though the problem is you can barely hear it with the amount of insulation the cars have. |

As with all things on the internet, I think you should take what people say with a grain of salt. We all strive for acceptance but ultimately if you like the car, it doesn't matter whether it's a "real M car" or not!
Helps me sleep better at night knowing that I enjoy tracking my OG just as much as the next guy in an M2C and the guy in an M sport 335i at the same track day Drive whatever you have, enjoy it, and if you feel it's not enough then save and upgrade!

Agreed again on the S55, sounds better from the outside. I like it best at WOP. My wife's 2018 M2 has a Dinan exhaust (res delete I believe) and it sounds really good to me (better than my M2C). Of course nothing compares the the R8 V10 at 8500rpm...lol

I keep reading this thread and it just irritates me. I have my 2018 M2 and dig it. I don't give 2 $hits if you got a comp or CS. Congrats if you do. Do I own a real M car? Opinions vary. I enjoy what I have and if it's not a M car, I really don't care. I'm enjoying what I have. Cheers. If you really want to step up, you should have a M5 cs. Lol

I did have a local X5M owner question why my M2 didn’t have an 8 cylinder engine like his.

I’d be happy if our local BMW CCA club had a row of M2’s or even M cars
Mostly series cars show up And only a handful of M’s

He was talking about M Car Days at Groit’s. You were there with several other M2s including mine.
