You guys crack me up. M2 more fun to drive? It's a second slower in the 0-60. Be real.

Have you never driven a real sports car other than a boat? What I see are mostly boats in your signature, albeit very nice boats. Like a second slower in 0-60 has any impact at all anyway... if you live for 0-60 go buy a Tesla, it will embarrass your M5 unless you use launch control, which I am sure you do at every stoplight.

Um, yeah, spot on

You are right, Iím sure the M2 is an example of a real sports car (AKA one of those models BMW came out with a few years ago when they started watering down the M name).

The M2 isn't a full-on sports car, but it's a hell of a lot closer than an M5 lol. I drove a couple laps in an M5C on track last year right after driving an M4 ZCP and the mass of the M5 is quite noticeable as is the numb feeling in comparison. The M2 feels even better than the M4. No one is arguing which is faster. If you don't understand feel then please just stick to your executive sedans. I'm sure your 4500lb AWD automatic transmission sedan is more of an M car than an M2, lol. How clueless can one be?

The M2/M3/M4 are the heaviest BMWs I would ever consider buying.

Thatís right, 0-60 is very important, gotta be gangsta and all that.

You should tattoo the 1/4 mile time on your forearm too, itís an impressive time...

If thatís your automotive ethos, you wouldnít know fun to drive from a hole in the ground.

Pretty predictable result given they are driving on England B-roads. M2C is smaller, more dynamic, etc. M8C is a fantastic GT cruiser for much less money than a Continental GT, etc. Yes, I have driven both.

So, what do YOU want? That said, if I wanted a car with the characteristics of the M8C, I would buy an M5C for the added practicality.

As Joe says, both are great cars with very different purposes.

To me the M8 is a boat. Sure I'd take the M8 over the M2 if I could sell it and with the money buy another M2 a Miata and a pickup. I just hate driving boats. If I wanted a long haul land yaht road warrior I'd probably get a Merc.

I wouldn't watch a murder mystery if I knew who the killer was beforehand which is why I skipped this one seeing I knew fully well he would pick the M2.

Great, you drove a M5 for basically 5 minutes and know it all.

WTF is the point of mentioning how heavy something is? Especially when it's faster. 0-60, 0-100.....what does it matter? It's a second minimum slower then these big boats. Then WTF are you paying $60k for? A "sports car" that really isn't that fast....let alone what other cars you could get for $60k. If you are going to pay $60k for an extra level M car, at least get one that competes with the competition.

Stop acting like a friggin M2 is BMW's crown jewel. Oh, wait, you drove a couple laps in a M5 once.

They didn't get too technical with describing the driving experience of each.

But I think they summed it up well when they said the M2 is simply just more fun. You don't have to be going at absurd speeds to have a smile on your face. The M8 is more of a German muscle car with NVH taken to the extreme. It's a highway cruiser and totally isolates you from "feeling" anything. Of course I haven't driven the M8, but I have driven the 850 side by side with the M2 and that was my conclusion.

Do you have functioning sensory nerves in your hands, feet, and ass?

Holy shit, I am not even going to attempt to explain road feel or driving dynamics to someone who has had as many cars as you have.

If you think it's all about speed measured in seconds or fractions of seconds then we can't even have a discussion.

The M2/M2C/M2CS are not their "crown jewel", but it is almost universally agreed that it is the sportiest feeling BMW on sale today. Actually it's twice that I have driven an F90 M5 on the track... and yes, I will have more FUN in 3500 lb manual transmission RWD coupe over a 4500 lb beast with a torque converter automatic and AWD. No one said the M2 was faster or more capable or more practical, so relax. Judging by your comments, you haven't driven any other M cars, while I've driven every single current one except the M8.

No one cares what you have driven. You were the one who started with the insults. M5 can be changed to RWD, too....but then again, you probably didn't turn that on in the 2 test laps they let you have with it.

I know full well the difference in road feel and handling. I came from a M550i, which although very fast, is a joke compared to a real M car in handling and steering feel. A lot of people will say the M550i (and other M branded non-M cars) are amazing things because they are almost as fast as the real M model. That could not be further from the truth.

The M5 weighs 4200 pounds, BTW.....not sure where you get 4500 from.

Lol I was thinking the same thing. Relax people.

Yeah, the M5 is heavy at 42XX, but an M2 isn't exactly light, especially for it size.

All the subjective arguments are just that, subjective. And before the M2 gang comes after me too I've driven many real sports car both on and off track.

And I really like the M2, just not the insecurities of some of its owners.

I don't even own an M2. But a statement like it's not fun and no one would ever choose it because it's 1 second slower to 60 is completely absurd and demonstrates detachment from reality.

Everyone is biased about their cars. I mean seriously they should be because it was their choice. As far as weight goes, I really don't care. What I do care about is that car is fun and a bit tossable.

Yes, I know you can turn off the AWD. Can't remove the weight it added, though. It's 4200-4300 lbs, my mistake, I was 5% off on the weight.

I agree that the actual M5 is a lot better than an M550i and there is a huge difference. The difference between the M5 and M2C in the amount of feedback you get is very large. I have driven both on the street also. You should drive the other cars before you assume things and come up with blanket assertions that make no sense.

Maybe you should drive a Porsche GT4 if you need help figuring out what a sports car feels like. I know it's not going to be more fun though, because it's a second slower 0-60 .

The M8 is a great car, I'm sure many people would prefer it to the M2/M3/M4. Same with the M5. You're dead wrong, though, if you think 0-60 or acceleration at all really completely defines the experience of a sporty car.

I love the M2c and want one right now, but again if the prices were the same I'd choose the M8. Just being honest.
I agree that the wagon would sell terribly in the US. I wouldn't buy a wagon. I understand that if the prices were equal that the M8 would hugely outsell the M2.

That said, If the resale value of the cars were equal, I would still take the M2C because it's a completely different category of car. I don't want a luxury rocketship. The M2 is already on the softer side of cars I am considering buying.

I think a lot of M2 owners and prospective M2 owners feel this way. The M2 is already not the best value proposition. The M4 is not that much more expensive in reality given the discounts available. It also has better interior quality, more features, and I think it looks better. However, my opinion is the M2 was more fun to drive on the street than the M4.

The real question is who is going to buy an M8C when they can get a Porsche 911 for the same money. If you offer me a Carrera S 7MT with sport PASM vs the M2C then yes, I will take the 911 every single time.
