I'd like to report back that after installing the ASD harness my cabin is noticeably quieter now and the slight drone from my downpipe and muffler delete has been lowered a lot.

My car had a late October 2016 production date, has 5.0, my ASD is coded off with no hiss, and my dealer told me it was a MY 2017. So I'm pretty confident it's a MY 2017. You car was produced in the following month, so I'd be at least as confident it is a MY 2017. |

High pitched noise(I have ASD Harness installed)
Hi all,
My M2 is a MY17 model. I've been noticing a very faint but shrill, high-pitched whine/hum from my car the past two days. I've read on these forums that coding off ASD can lead to white noise, which is why I went with the ASD harness option. TBH I don't even know if this whine is from ASD, people say it's a hiss instead. The reason why I think the whine is coming from the ASD is because it doesn't exist when the ignition is off or the car is in comfort mode. However, the moment I flip the car into sport, the whine comes back (I can pretty much replicate it and summon the noise on demand. I'm 100% sure I've installed the harness properly. I've even got the BMS OBD2 Canflap module and I've muted ASD through that too, yet the noise still exists Has anyone else had the same problems as me? Keen to hear your thoughts. I've called my SA about the possibility of getting it coded off (for triple redundancy lol), and they agreed to do it, but I have a feeling that won't sort out my problem.. Thanks Last edited by JLX; 06-25-2017 at 11:28 PM.. |

I don't know who told you to use a harness on the MY '17 vehicles, but it's not needed, and likely the source of your trouble. Coding ASD off is all you have to do with the newer amplifier hardware in the MY '17 vehicles.

Sorry i can't help but if what reid is saying is correct and you do not need the Bypass harness (and obviously if it's not faulty and thats why you are getting the whine) i may take it off your hands if you want to sell it.

Can you expand on this please. It was my understanding that even if you code ASD off the ASD amp is still in the sound path. Therefore the bypass harness is needed to remove the low quality ASD amp from the sound path.

Check out the thread regarding the harness it's explained in there why 2017 M2s only need coding.

Where exactly does the coding method intercept the ASD signal? (at least for the MY17 cars).
I've read the thread you linked and it doesn't exactly offer clarification into what's changed between MY16 and MY17. I'm interested because I'm trying to figure out whether I have a faulty ASD harness or if the harness just plays funny with all MY17 models, causing this high pitched noise. Can anyone here with an MY17 with a harness installed weigh in on whether they have this problem? And also anyone with MY17 who has gone with the coding route. Thanks |
