Short Shifter Play (PSDesigns)

fam!

I've just installed the PSDesign short shifter in my M2C and just wanted to say, it has greatly improved the driving experience with each shift (I'm sure many of you who have installed AutoSolutions/CAE can understand) however, despite the tactile and visceral shifts, there is more play than expected:

I've checked with ebisu8 that it was a similar experience when he had his PSDesigns and is also the same for his CAE.

I feel this is quite a lot of play relative of the distance to get into each gear

Expectation:

What is everyone else's experience with the plays in their short shift kit? Is there a way to adjust it?

PS: I'm also talking with Pete from PSDesigns to better understand what type of play should be expected but wanted to hear about everyone else's experience

Did you ever figure out the “excessive” play? It’s been a while since I worked on a shifter assembly, but I remember my e46 having some yellow washers to help with that. Do you think that could work?

Reminds me of the RTD shifter when I had it installed in the E46 M3 as well. Massive amount of play and really turned me off. Immediately installed my CAE. With the F87 though, I went with AS and have loved it.

Email Ronald: Ronald@Autosolutions.net

He'll give you options and recommendations. Seems like 20% is popular, but I decided to go 15% reduction and 80a bushing. I think he changed the terminology of the bushings, but it's the mid hardness bushing.

Yea not sure if you'll be happy with the AS after experiencing a housing mounted shifter….

I tried the AS on a friends and the "improvement" vs my stock wasnt worth it.

I have a CAE in the E46, AS in the CS. Completely satisfied with the AS as a daily w/o having to go overboard with the CAE this go around.

RTD is super tight/rigid in my F87 M2, no play, I mean, not even a little, I have the V4 carbon version, drop-in style, package come in pre-assembled and DSSR pre-adjusted.

My friend went with CAE, great top of the line product, except it needs a little bit trimming.
I think CAE is more DIY, you can adjust anything according to your specific needs, shaft angle, side gears tightness. It can work on any platform/chassis.

RTD is like 50% adjustable, F87 version has adjustable length DSSR too. but I didn't bother to mess up with it. If you simply just want a plug and play style, RTD is good enough and with half of CAE cost.

Kinda suprise that PSDesign has so much free play in gear. mine is solid like rock, sometimes I wish to have a little wiggling room, save me 10% of strength swimming gears.
I have ASS from Ronald, It's really the best OEM+ shifter and customer service is platinum, quick email reply, details explaining, you will have a lot of support from him to decide which stuff you should pick to meet your needs.
But chassis mounted is just different. for those just shift like a bolt rifle and don't give a shit about NVH people. More connected I would say

delayed response. I hadn't done anything since to fix the play have just left it.

And yes it was installed with PSDesigns DSSR.

I'm thinking of upgrading to an RTD shifter. In hindsight, should've went with this option initially, given it was practically same price as the PSDesigns.
