Square wheels
Hey guys! As the title states, I want to know what you're running for square wheels on track.
I am killing sets of front tires way to fast and need to able to move them to the back and squeeze more life out of them. I don't want a "barely" fits square setup. I want something that clears pretty well all around. Spacers are fine. I'm thinking 18x9.5 et33 with a 275 tire. I know that 275 on 9.5 is max. But I'm not going any narrower of a tire. My car makes good power and will roast 275s as it is. What are your thoughts and experiences? |

How much negative camber are you running up front? Curious since I run the factory staggered setup and don’t consume front tires too quick.
But my tracks are easy on tires. |

Depending on your pace and tire, it's certainly possible to have really bad wear with the M2. I was killing Sport Cup 2s after 2 days when running them on stock 19" wheels and with stock suspension. Adding camber plates and coilovers, the wear got bumped to about every 4 days. It wasn't until I got track dedicated tires/wheels that I saw wear rates that were acceptable to me. Now running Apex SM-10 18x10 33ET square with Nitto NT01 275/35/18 square and getting at least 10 days if I don't abuse them. 12mm spacer and -3.2 of camber.

I'm currently on kw v3s with camber plates
-3 front camber -2 rear Tiny bit of toe SPL toe arm, thrust arm, upper rear arms HR 35mm front bar I'm on 18" wheels with 265/275 re71rs I can get barely 8 20 min sessions out of my front tires. The rears I can get 16 20 min sessions. But some of our track days are 8 20min sessions in one day. I'm also thinking of going to NT01 per the recommendation of my coach that it'll last longer. I'm also working to get a new set of coils. I know the v3 are too soft for how hard I drive. So I'm still looking for the magic answer on what square setup will work good, fit a 275 tire and not open a can of rubbing worms. |

I got maybe 20-25 20min sessions out of mine with ambient temps in low 20s Celsius. After that I switched to Hankook RS4 and have about 9-10 days on them and reckon I can get maybe 4-5 more after I flip them. NT01 are also a great choice but may wear a bit quicker than the Hankooks. |

I'm still very interested to hear about some square set ups. Good to know on the Hancock's. I'm going to give the Nt01s a try first. The re71rs definitely have insane grip the first couple laps after they're warm. My coach said it's more of a TT tire. Made to get warm and then lay down a few fast laps then cooled off. Running hard for 20 min sessions heats them up too much and they just melt. I saw tire temps at 150* Fahrenheit. Ambient was 80* |

Also wanted to mention:
When I test fitted my 18x10+33 wheels with Toyo R888R 275/35R18 tires on the front, the tires rubbed on the front fender liner. I'm getting ready to switch to square 275's and the first thing I'm going to do is pull that fender liner and see what I can do to increase inner clearance. |

If you're running RE71s (which I didn't see you mention) then I think you should expect to get about 16 to 20 twenty minute sessions if you rotate with a square setup across the four corners. That's at least what I experienced, running at a hard pace amongst the fastest instructors. Perhaps your car setup can be tweaked before you spend money upgrading your coilovers. For example, why are you running toe in on the fronts, I wonder if this is part of your issues? Generally the way to go with a BMW is zero toe to a tiny bit of toe out. Also, consider adding more negative camber if you're running often on track. I run at least -3.2 with good wear. I once asked Will Turner how he sets up his race cars and he said he runs at least -4 in the front.

The current alignment specs I posted earlier are by far the best I've ran yet. The back has .2 toe and the front is .04. The car was coming out for corners like a rocket. It also had much better straight line braking characteristics. I experienced the best handling yet with my current alignment. One thing all of you need to remember is that car setup is very personal. What one person likes another person may not like. I'm simply asking for some guidance on a square tire setup that doesn't run like a SOB. Thanks |

I've run willow springs PB- 1:35 Streets of willow PB- 1:25 Buttonwillow CW13 PB- 2:02 I've been running intermediate run groups. But after this last weekend my coach said it's time for advanced. I'm an ex local amateur professional motocross racer. So im very comfortable closer to the limit than most. |

I'm currently running -3 front -2 rear camber. I have v3s right now but have clubsport 3 ways being made. So that will open a little more spring clearance up front. I'm hoping that the 18x10 being a 1/2 inch narrower will fit perfectly in et33. I don't want my 1/4 panels or fenders getting rubbed up. I don't care about the liners. Thanks for the help guys. This was the simple feedback I was looking for. |
