M2 owner moving to slc

I'm moving to SLC in a couple of weeks and thought it would be cool to meet some other m2 owners. I've had mine for about a year now. From what I've seen there is a pretty big car scene down there.

There probably aren't too many here in SLC I guess under 20. I should be getting my M2 in a few months if all goes good. The BMWCCA is pretty good here, as well as the enthusiast group.

+1 for BMWCCA

It's a great way to find new bimwad besties when you move to a new area.

Stay away from Dallas, Texas though. Haven't heard anything good about the bimwads there.

France is nicer than Dallas, believe me....and last time I rode/drove there you could actually use all of your engine and mostly no one would care if out in the country. Great culture, great food, and great roads....on one ride we actually passed some authorities and they just waved hello. Things may be tighter now? as they are in Switzerland which use to be awesome in the passes. Time moves on, along with regulations.

Well you still can if you're way out in the country or in the mountains but they are putting speed cameras everywhere. They don't seem to understand that, the more speed controls there are, the more drivers look at their speedometers rather than looking at the road so you end up having even more accidents. In Switzerland you can't have fun any more because there are controls everywhere. In America the car culture is still acceptable, whereas in Europe you are more or less a criminal the minute you sit in the driver's seat.

I have heard that it is much different now than it was even only five years ago, which is the last time I had the opportunity to drive some of the better roads and passes. Germany had so much road construction and 80 km/h zones on the autobahn that it didn't even seem the same. The A31 heading north from Essen was fairly clean and allowed some high speed runs w/out too much fuss. Ten years before that it seemed almost Un-restricted by comparison. We did almost all the Swiss passes, the Pyrenees, Verdon gorge, Black Forest, Dolomites, and too much else to remember.

Also, didn't mean to throw a dig at Texas, but my only good driving experience there has been in the SW portion of the state....some great terrain and beauty there heading south to Presidio and then east through Big Bend state and national areas....just don't go there in the summer!

Oh yeah, back to SLC....haven't spent much time there, but Utah is one of the most spectacular places on earth, period! If you ever get a chance you need to drive the road from Bryce to Capitol Reef through Escalante and Boulder. That road Rules!!!!

SLC, and Utah in general, is a great place to live. I lived there for 7 years (98 to 05) and BMW of Murray were very supportive when establishing the Wasatch Chapter of the BMW CCA (we held the first meeting, and many afterward, at the dealership - they were the only dealer between Boise and Las Vegas but I think there are a few more now). There are some really great drives through the mountains and I think they have a pretty good track there now.

Most of the BMW community is on the Facebook group Utah BMW Enthusiasts. It's true that it's excellent to live here, can't wait for my M2 to get here so I can truly enjoy the canyon roads we have.
