It will be aggressive but it won't stick out. I typically run 10mm spacers on stock wheels so another 4mm is really not that much

to confirm:
will 245 square on 788M wheels work?
or do I need to go 245/265 like the summer tires?

I was suggested the following wheels RTX, VERTEX, 18 x 8, 5 x 120, 35, 72.6 with a set of 245/40/18 tires. Would this fit a 2018 M2?

I'm just getting into everything and this is my first real car, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. I couldn't quite find any good (or maybe just easy enough for me) resources to figure it out. I see a lot of people going with 18 x 8.5 or 18 x 9 wheels. My mechanic told me he checked his sources and filtered by car to get these tires. I am just worried that I am not seeing anyone mention 18 x 8.

255 square would work better as 245 on 19" x 10" rear will be a stretch.

The 18x8" ET35 wheels you suggested will fit just fine with those tires. The 245 tires will be a bit wide for those wheels, so 225/45 or 235/40 would be a better fit, especially if you'll be driving through snow. You'll want to verify that those wheels will clear your brakes first, since not all wheels are created equal.

Cheers BP, 235 40 all round, Alpin P4’s. Whist I had the tyres off for TPMS fitting I thought f**k it i’ll get the refurbed. They powder coated, I’ll try and get the brand and colour. Pictures really don’t do the justice imo, there’s a load of flake pop which the camera dosent pick up.

To be fair I quite like the look of the 640’s, tough call between them.......

Apex EC7 18x9.5in ET35 square setup running 255 Blizzak’s and 10/12 front rear spacers. I am in love with this setup and highly recommend.
