225/40/19 Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 on 437M reps 19x8.5 square. I went "slim" to better cut through snow and Hakkas for the best ice grip.

My owner's manual has tire specs for an M2C for 235/40R 18"...is anyone running an 18" setup on an M2C? (p213)

Granted, this was specially for an all season tire.

I'm running four 245/40R-18 MICHELIN PILOT ALPIN PA4 XL on 18"x 9" ET 40 wheels all around. No rub and awesome traction in the snow.

I just ordered 265/35 and 285/35 Scottzero 3 tires for the stock 437m wheels because that's what I normally run in summer.

I went opposite of everyone and went wider than stock for winter. I don't believe narrower would be beneficial for the type of driving I do. I work from home and can wait for the roads to clear before leaving, so there won't be any snow I need to cut through. I also think wider tires will give me more lateral grip, for situations when I'm stepping on the brake with the wheels turned, but the car is still going straight cause there is no traction.

I don't know. Just seems like narrower tires would only be good for plowing through snow. But the way I drive isn't mainly plowing through snow. I don't think a narrow tire is gonna help when you're going up hill and there is ice on the road that is too solid to cut through. etc.

Not with the big brakes that we all got in the US. No 18's for us. 18's fit over the smaller blue-caliper brakes that are stock in other lands. The 19" 641's barely fit (just put my winter set on yesterday).

put these on today

18x9 ET30, 245/40/18

The wheels are 720Form GT2, 19lbs flow formed, super cheap - $250 Canadian so probably under 200 USD

The front is not quite flush with 7.5mm spacer but the rear is ok with 10mm.

Mounted Alpin 4s on my 437Ms this week. Excellent winter tyre based on this week's driving.

^ Looks great - thanks for posting. I was torn but decided to go with a slightly used set of black 788’s for my winter set up - will probably pair with PA4’s.

Just mounted my set yesterday. Went with 245 square 18” setup from tirerack. Rial X10 have a bmw oem-type of look to them which I like.

Ok - so trying to decide which winter tires to go with on OEM 19" wheels. Not planning to drive the car with any snow on the ground - will drive the beater SUV - but cold temp performance is important (and would be nice to have something that could handle some inclement weather in a pinch if need be). The options I'm considering:

1) Pirelli Sottozero Serie II in stock sizes (245 front / 265 rear)
2) Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 - 245 front / 255 rear (I assume this would fit ok)
3) Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 (high performance all seasons) in either stock sizes or 255/275

Thoughts? I like the idea of the PA4s but the sizing isn't optimal (although could be perfectly fine in those sizes). Pirelli's seem ok although maybe not much better than the (less expensive) Conti all seasons. Anything else I should consider?

If you're not going to drive in actual snow, get the Conti DWS or the Michelin AS. They will be better in most conditions than the PA4. I would skip the Sottozero II because it's very old. The Sottozero 3 has been available for a long time, but not in the right sizes for the M2. If you really must go for a winter tire, I would get different wheels and run 245 square.

Thanks for the input. I guess my concern with all-seasons is that the rubber compound isn't much better than summers in terms of staying pliant at lower temperatures (so for the DC area that is really in the 20's/30's) - and as such not really gaining much. Not sure if that is the case or not.

Edit - did some further research on the Conti DWS and the Michelin AS. Both seem to be highly regarded for what they are (a compromise) - with the Conti's rating better in the snow and the Michelin's a little better in the summer/dry/wet. So for my winter driving needs, the Conti's seem to be the way to go. Now just need to decide if I want to get them in the stock 245/265 or go a bit more aggressive with a 255/275 setup...

I'd get stock because narrower will be a bit better in rain and snow.

The compounds of performance winter tires are actually quite similar to all seasons from what I can gather based on comments in some of the German and UK tire reviews. True winter tires like the WS80 and Xi3 are quite different, but I don't think you were considering those anyway.

I can attest that the Conti DWS is great in snow (and rain). I had this setup on my M240xi (granted...xdrive) and it was great in the rain and snow (I live in southwest PA and we have a lot of hills...including driveway). And no, I did not go out in unplowed roads. After the plows went through the tires handled great. Sub zero temps didn't bother them either.

Concerning fitment, wondering if 18s in 9.5 et22 square set with 255 will fit on the M2.

Have a set of ec-7 and don't want to get rid of them.

that's about as flush as I would go with winter tires. The edge of the rim will be about 14mm farther out so imagine your OEM wheels with 15mm spacer.

Just fitted a set of 18 x 8.5" ET30 Alutec Pearl with 235/40 Alpin PA4. Really happy with how they look and drive, not as big a compromise as I was expecting and they're a touch comfier which makes a nice change.

But it won't protrude out?

Front or back right?
