Really annoying: water gushing out of mirrors after washing the car

So you go out and carefully wash your car. making sure to use several clean mircrofiber cloths to make sure the finish is flawless.
You even use compressed air to blow out all of the nooks where water hides. Let the car sit in the sun for an hour to dry. Then take it for a drive only to see water gush out the mirrors and streak all down the sides.

I swear, even I use massive amounts of compressed air to blow them out, those mirrors must hide a gallon of water, and it only comes out when you hit 30 mph.

I totally agree with you. I'm frustratingly amazed at the amount of water they can hold.

I wrapped a towel around each side mirror and opened and closed the door a few times even after I've used the leaf blower. It helps.

You know what else is really annoying?

When people put really vague titles on their posts and then just throw them into general discussions instead of organizing them somewhere like the cosmetic maintenance section.

Guys before you dry, just hit the button and fold the mirrors in, it completely dumps the water out, then blow dry.

First world problems...

Yeah, what DtH said above. I have mine coded to fold the mirrors when locked, so I just press the lock button after drying (with a Master Blaster) & let the trapped water drain out.

Seriously! Was meant to be light hearted, laughing at myself kind of post. Yeah I know it's not the end of the world. And didn't think of the folding mirror trick will try that next time.

On that note: do you also have a lot of trapped water behind the gas filler cap?

Here's another vote for folding in the mirrors. I tried everything before someone on this forum suggested that. So simple, I can't believe I didn't think of it.

A towel gets most of it but to be sure I hit it with the blower too. No more drips on that first drive.

Fold the mirrors open for a few minutes most of the water should come out then.

Yeah I do that as well, I fold the mirrors up and down a few times + a leaf blower gets almost all the water out.

Then I pretty much leave the mirror folded up with the glass tilted so it allows more airflow. After a night out like this the water seems to all evaporate.

Awesome! I'll be doing the folding mirror trick next time I wash. I ended up wrapping a drying towel around the mirrors to keep the water from running down my paint!

That's a pretty smart idea too! But I just found if you folded the mirrors with compressed air, and left it for a day after there won't be any water dripping.

Ya I use a leaf blower to dry and blow out extra water, but the mirrors and gas cap seem to be reservoirs! They just continue to stream. So wrapping them with a towel did help

Oh yeah I don't doubt that!

For me I just didn't like wrapping the mirror because I didn't want to increase the chance of rust.

So I just left it folded up over night and that was enough time for the water to evaporate.

Rust? Ugh... How would that happen? I hadn't even thought of that!

I don't leave it on for long periods of time. I just wrap them while I dry the wheels, wipe down the interior, etc. By the time I'm done with that, the water has pretty much stopped and I remove them.

My towels aren't super wet either since I use the blower first. And aren't the mirrors plastic? I'm still trying to figure out what would rust...
