I have the MPE with FabSpeed SportCat and can tell you no video will properly convey the volume. The deep rumble and overall volume level have to be heard in person to truly be understood and appreciated. How can you judge how loud to turn up your speakers to accurately depict the same volume level? One thing is for sure: the cackle as you let off the gas pedal and the thunderous exhaust melody with this setup is both addictive and intoxicating!

We've installed plenty of Fabspeed downpipes with the high flow cat (200 cell) with nothing but praise for it. Sounds great too.

What is the size of the stock DP and are there any aftermarket DPs with a larger diameter?

That's the only thing that I'm worried about as my wife and I use ours for weekend trips. Do you know roughly what speed that is? There's a slight drone now with the stock set up at certain rpms.

Are you driving in sport mode and still have ASD? That's where a lot of drone comes from.
3000rpm in 6th is about 80-85mph

ASD has been bypassed. Normally on trips we're in comfort mode but I hear a bit of a drone when accelerating through the gears at certain RPM's. It's not horrible but you can tell certain RPMs are louder than others even with the same throttle opening.

Are asking about the connection? Its 4"

You cannot go any smaller or larger or else downpipe will not fit.

If you are asking about the size of the pipe, you have couple different designs. The largest in the center would be Wagner Tuning

Forgive my lack of knowledge, is a tune necessary with a catted dp? Also, will it bolt up to Dinan exhaust with resonator delete?

There are at least four downpipes readily available in the US that employ HJS catalytic converters:

1. Fabspeed 200-cpsi ($1395)
2. HJS 300-cpsi ($1495)
3. Akrapovic 300-cpsi ($1850)
4. Supersprint 100/200-cspi ($2432–$2822)

Given that I have the M-performance exhaust, which is already pretty loud with the valves open, I am leaning towards the HJS downpipe over the Fabspeed unit.
Where are you guys finding the 300 cell HJS downpipes in the US?

Hey Mike,

You posts are always very helpful

Anyways, I remember reading that you said that all aftermarket downpipes have a shelf life and doesn't last 'forever..'

I don't want to call out any particular brand but how long would you say on average they last for before I would have to spring for another one?

Thank you.

All cats even stock ones will eventually fail, the cheaper the quality of the cat the sooner it fails.

We never had any issues with Wagner or Fabspeed cats.

I’m only finding the HJS 300 cell for the F22 in the US. Does that downpipe fit our cars?

It does but 300 CEL is too restrictive, you might as well keep your stock downpipe in this case.

We carry the Fabspeed downpipe with 200 CEL HJS Cats.

That is what I discovered as well, and it does indeed fit the M2 (F87). I purchased the HJS 300 cell per square inch downpipe from Fabspeed by going to BMW M235i (F22). Here is a cut and paste from my invoice:

ITEM / SKU: 90812010
DESCRIPTION: BMW M135i / M235i / M2 / 335i / 435i HJS 300 Cell Euro 6 Sport Catalytic Converter 80mm Downpipe
PRICE: $1,495.00

Fabspeed had their 10% summer sale going on at the time. The technician that installed it said it fit like a glove. I have had it installed since August 2018 and no issues have arisen. It provides just a bit more sound and drama over the stock downpipe. Note too that I have the M-Performance Exhaust. I have no regrets at all.

IMHO for the majority of us daily drivers (not the track dudes/dudettes or 20 somethings;-) the fabspeed sport cat with stock exhaust is perfect. Cold starts are very loud for a brief moment and then settles to a great clean but tough sound. Driving it sounds great but not like you are trying to be a wannabe racer or someone who is trying to draw a ton of attention. It's enough to turn heads with admiration of those who appreciate it but doesn't cause other to think "what a d bag". I just had the sport cat installed and was debating whether to do an aftermarket exhaust but there is no way I'm adding more sound now that I have it. Anything more would have too much drone and be way to loud for a neighborhood daily driver car.

Again, just my opinion but I think for the majority of regular drivers, the fabspeed sport cat with stock exhaust is as far as I would go on sound plus you get the nice power boost and no cel.

I’m on the fence on this one.

I really don’t want more exhaust volume for road trips, and no additional smell. I also want the downpipe to last for years and all my trips to the track running at WOT. It seems like the 300 cell would be better in my case, while still giving some additional power.

I was also probably going to run SeanWRT BM3 Dinan FBO map, and he’s using the 300 cell HJS.

200 CEL will not add any volume to the exhaust if you are not going wide open throttle and will last just as long as the 300 CEL.

As for power, i have not seen any dyno showing 300 CEL adding power over stock with everything else identical
