Reliability

Hey Folks - Curious how they've been holding up...who has the highest miles on their M2 and how has your experience been with dependability? Thx

21K miles here - one slight gremlin in the steering column that went away on its own and one CEL light that went that same route.

Seems pretty good. MY16 cars had some sound amp issues. Some cars were getting condensation in the tail lights. MY18 LCI cars had some turn signals issue that would pop a notification. Some 6 Speed MT people had some issues after installing a clutch stop but I think that's been fine for stock folks? Some people on the track have had fueling issues if their tank is less than half full, maybe this would be the worst thing as could be a fuel pump issue you have to pester BMW about. Fucking iDrive sometimes is flaky with some phones some of the time over blutooth? Charge pipe crack on tuned cars.

Not seeing much if any cars not being able to be driven. All the horror stories I can think of involved aggressive tuning.

I had several right turn signal malfunction warnings several months ago. But it seems to have gone away by itself. No warnings the last several months. Other than that, my M2 has been perfect.

13,800 miles since 10/16, no issues, except:
Free replacement of the rotor dust shields due to 'rocks in soda can' sound
OEM Continental tires only last 11,000 miles due to uneven wear (replaced with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S)

20000km....aside from a bum battery that had to be replaced, and odd complaint of pebbles getting caught between brake rotor and shield, all good!

Early MY16 and 17 had the sport diff issue but all were corrected.

If you never got recalled for the differential issue, the sound you heard was rocks banging around in your dust shield/rotor.

I've just got a 17 plate so good to hear that they don't seem to have much issues. I've got warranty till March 2020.

7,500km on my 1 year anniversary...which is this week btw. Stg 2 tuned and a bunch of add-ons/upgrades.

Only issue I have had is finding the time to drive the car more...

I hit the 2-year mark for ownership next month. Only trips to the dealer have been for the 1,200 mile service and an annual oil change. Had a problem with the plastic kick pad on the back of the passenger seat coming loose. Dealer fixed that during the oil change. Also installed the upgraded rear brake shields at that time. Only non-scheduled issue was a CEL that came on not long after filling up with a tank of sketchy gas. Ran that tank down to fumes, refilled with Tier 1 gas, and the light went away. Car has been rock solid.

Some great feedback, thanks everyone...sounds like they're pretty reliable so far, with the exception of relatively minor issues (and without extreme tunes).

Great to hear...

Wasn't rocks, I know what that sounds like. I also preemptively bent my dust shield back as soon as I got the M2 since I had that issue on my F80.

37,000 miles. Jan 16 build. I had to have my taillight replaced bc of condensation near reverse light. Very rarely my sub sometimes stops working but always comes back. Other than that no major issues. Best M ever!

I probably haven't had my car long enough but at almost 9 months of ownership and 10,000 miles, I've had no issues.

35,000 miles, build date September 12, 2016. Daily driver plus 12 HPDE track days so far. No issues whatsoever.

Of course I run proper brake fluid and track pads on track days, stock pads and fluid will not hold up to the pace of anyone but a beginner.

Been doing oil changes every 4,000 miles which usually includes 3-4 track days. Oil analysis show all is well. Could go longer intervals but I live in AZ a lot of the days are at high temps, I use Motul 8100Xcess 5w-40 because of that same concern about the environment I drive and play in.

Hard to judge on a true long-term scale as nobody's owned an M2 longer than five years but the N55 has been around for awhile now and is generally regarded to be pretty bulletproof as far as BMWs go.

The rocks literally sound like driving over soda cans, which is unintuitive. Swapped to new brake shields and never heard it again.
