The E9x short shift kit was a PROPER short shifter with new carriage and gear linkage, knob and gaiter.

That was a great option, awkward to fit though.

IND don't do their kit with orange stitching

The BMWP one for the M2C looks terrible:

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...48#51952457455
It can get confusing for sure as the first time I saw a thread describing this as the M performance shifter I check BMW's catalogue for the M2 and the silver one shows up not this one. Nice of IND to do this but it would be nice if it was illuminated.

It looks like this knob shortens the overall lever height (not to be confused with a real short throw shifter). Is the shift effort noticeably higher?

That's exactly what I said .

The shift effort is not noticeably higher, but then again I'm a tall guy with long arms. The length of the shifter is smaller but it's not more than half an inch(idk what it is, never measured).

Don't forget, the moment arm includes your whole arm, where the pivot is your shoulder blade. Comparing those two distance, from one shifter to the next, is going to be fairly small.

How does the LCI M Performance shifter feel? Is it any heavier? Looks like it's about the same height as the stock knob. I'm not in love with the silver but it is illuminated which is a plus.

The newer M2C shifter is available with orange or blue stitching.

It actually does, you'd be surprised.

Had this shift knob in my M4 and an old 135i and it made a significant difference.

To each his own but I don't want to make my car look like a Mustang inside. The OEM silver one already teeters on the edge of good taste in a semi-luxury interior.

I can't say this enough, be careful when you pull the old shift knob off and don't whack yourself in the face, super easy to do.

Love the new shifter - it feels smaller, solid, and precise. The shortness of it def makes the throw feel locked in between shifts... not to mention it looks much better!

DetailersDomain thanks for setting it up!

That shifter is calling me, it's begging me, it's speaking the universal language to me to "row some effing gears."

I just want to fondle that shifter, I could shift that so fast that the DCT would be embarrassed and go home.

how much of a PITA was it to install the red M buttons? I read you have to take off the airbag>?

Yes, airbag out, wheel off and dismantle the switch assembly.

Tricky if you've not done it before but otherwise an hours work.

I put on the carbon fiber trim for my steering wheel. It was very straightforward. Disconnect the battery. There are some videos from IND how to get the airbag out. You got a fiddle around with a screwdriver but it will just pop it out. Do not pry in anyway, if you feel you need to pry you are doing it wrong and just give it some time to find the right spot. For just the carbon fiber trim, you don't actually have to take the entire steering wheel off. Did not do the buttons.
