adding a illuminated shift knob
I have a E36 M3 Lightweight and driving it the other day reminded me how I miss the illuminated shift knob. I don't know why but I like it so I wanted it in my M2.
Well its $200 and pretty easy to do. I ordered this one part number 25112284205 from ECS here https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...xoCRnQQAvD_BwE You need to take the old one out, the Gaitor gets deattached by pushing it in towards the shifter. It has 6 clips but once one side is unattached its out. Then you pull straight up HARD and try to not knock yourself out and the whole knob and boot come off as one piece. Once off you must separate the knob from gaitor. There are three clips and very hard to get lose without breaking them but it can be done. Do it first on the M2 one you pulled out so if you break the clips no big deal. Now take the new one and remove the illuminated knob the same way. Cut the connector off the wires. Drill a 1/8 hole in the alcantera boot through the plastic to mimic the the one in the new leather one you took off the new illuminated knob from. Pass the wires through. Find the tab on the sport comfort button and remove the buttons. Remove the connector and find the 9 volts that with your dimmer goes down to maybe 3 and find the ground wire. Tap into those. Reinstall Your done and happy. Last edited by bmwm1; 11-20-2018 at 10:38 AM.. Reason: speling |

Good post, thanks for the info. You realize though, that adding the lighted shift knob adds weight and slows your ET, right?
Not trying to make fun of you, but I gotta confess that this (image clip below) made me chuckle. Although that probably wasn't your intent.
