M2 question about cold weather
new m2 owner here from Edmonton AB, was wondering if the frameless doors ever have issues opening or closing when it gets to -25 or below? also, does the vehicle have issues starting up when it is super cold? on another note, my dealer told me to plug it in before the cold weather hits to top up the battery, will this really help anything?
thanks |

I have run frameless doors through decades of Saskatchewan winters (I have an almost pathological aversion to sedans, haha). Never, ever had a single problem, and my car sits outside my work for up to ten hours in minus forty weather, regularly. None of my BMWs have ever failed to start, either - and they are never plugged in.
It's really quite remarkable, when you think of it.

All vehicles that have windows that lower when they open will have issues in our Canadian winters.Only full framed windows are immune from this.Probably worse here in Ontario with our damp winters than inthe dry west.I have started at -30 with no issues in my previous BMW’s

I've usually been able to open the door when the window has frozen in place but then the challenge is closing the door. Because of the seals the door can be harder to close as they'll push the door open again before the latch engages.

Just need to wait for the heat to melt the ice which usually takes about 20 minutes or so while driving.

I'd keep a spray bottle of diluted isopropyl alcohol in the trunk to hit the windows with in case of frameless door window issues.

has the quality of the frameless doors declined? i daily drove a 135 for 9 years and never had an issue opening the door. did have an issue with the trunk once but that was the ice storm.

My wife was running late rhe other day and her windows were completely frozen over, couldn't see out of them. I grabbed my spray bottle of alcohol and hit the windows real quick, cleared all of the frost off with no fuss. She now carries her own bottle. |
