The M2 hangs in with the M4 just fine despite a tire disadvantage. In the skilled hands of a driver like Randy Pobst the M2 is actually quicker on some tracks than the M4 despite being undertired and underpowered compared to it's big brother. There's a lot more going on with the M2 than just tires that separate it from the M420i.

Even though I went with an M4 because I got a borderline insane deal...this was the draw to the M2 for me...the performance and that body are just nuts!

At no point did I say the M240i would be transformed into an M2 with tires. Clearly you love your M2 and why shouldn't you, it's a great car. I'm trading my M235i for a M2 Competition so I get it.

Thanks. That pic was taken when I had Dinan springs installed. I have taken them off now since my car is going up for sale soon. I have mixed emotions about selling this car. Overall it is a good package for everyday use.

While the M2 is at the dealership where they are trying to fix a nasty rattle in my driver door, they sent me away in an AWD M240. Totally impressed with the acceleration from standstill! I don't think I would stand a chance with my 6MT M2 (if it mattered to me). But this is where the excitement ends for me with the M240. For sure a great thing to have the AWD in winter, but I was more than underwhelmed with a) the transmission (be it as quick as it is on paper) and more importantly b) by how it is planted on the road. This is where the M2 absolutely shines in comparison. Zero regrets not to have gone for the M235/240 instead, my loaner just re-assured me of my decision. Can't wait to have my M2 back under my butt!

Why would anyone buy a M240i over an M2? Is there any reason whatsoever to pay more for less? A lot less. I don't understand that at all. The only thing I could think of is you can get the m240 in awd. that is super appealing to me in Canada and through our winter. Other than that I don't see any logic or reason in that pricing structure. you pay more for an inferior car with less equipment, lower quality equipment and it doesn't look even close to as nice.
Opting for a non-leather interior in the US with a 6MT is not possible in the M2, while it is in the M240i.

2022 M240i

I was one of the first ones to grab for the pitch fork and torch the design initially, but after seeing it in real life it's a lot better in my opinion than appears using on-line media.

The power dome visuals must work, because it really doesn't seem all that big nor heavy in real life.

Since my daily MK V R32 is getting a bit long in the tooth at 14 years and 122,000 miles it's time to soon part ways, so the M240i is on a very, very short list of contenders.

I'd prefer the RWD variant since it would be less expensive and lighter, but I'm afraid that won't come until '23 when the video gameboard dash is going to be foisted on the public.

What remains is a test drive to see if I can live with an electric steering rack. Everybody says they are improving with each iteration, but nobody has stated they are at the same level of involvement and connection as the hydraulic units.

As far as the G87 goes, I like the idea of getting one of the last real ICE cars, especially in an Individual color like Le Mans blue, but in reality, it just doesn't fit in my portfolio unless something were to happen to the 1 M.

I’m allowed only one queen in my personal life and in the garage, so until BMW releases another model that is as small, light, raw, analog and viscerally appealing I am afraid I will have to live vicariously through you good folks on the M2 board.

Throttle House did a comparo between an OG M2 and new M240i xdrive, which I personally didn't really get a whole lot out of since the ambient temperature at the time wasn't conducive to a fair test.

But it at least gives a glimpse how stout the G87 will be performance wise.

And once the RWD M240i is released and both it and the M2 are available, we can begin those 'The M2 is not worth the premium over the M240i' narratives that are bound to be forth coming.

The next 12 - 15 months are going to be entertaining around here.
