Waxing (not spray) over Xpel wrap.
Was told by the installer to only use a spray wax as "regular" waxes might make the wrap yellow...
I had just the full hood and front wrapped but that area gets the most bugs/stones etc. as we know and I wanted to put a real wax on Xpel. Any thoughts on this? |

This is more important for white cars as Carnuba wax and other yellow waxes can cause slight discoloration of the film. On a black car you may not notice but the slight yellowing of the film can be noticeable on white paint. To be safe I would stick with clear synthetic waxes or ceramics.

I use Meguiars Ultimate Liquid wax over my Suntek ppf, it's a full synthetic wax and from my net research won't adversely affect the film. It's super easy to use and also doesn't leave a powder residue nor marks on plastic (it gives a perfect finish on the rear diffuser)

I'd recommend a ceramic coating. Works just like a wax and will last for 3-4 years if properly maintained. I used CQuartz Professional on my last car, and have an appt to get it installed on my new one after I get full front end Xpel coverage.

You can wax, make sure that it does not have naptha (sp). The thing is, there are so many superior products to wax, that are better, more durable and last much longer.

I dont think there are many last step products that outlast Collonite 845.

Before you put anything on PPF you should simply email the manufacturer. Before coating mine with CQuartz I sent a email to Xpel, they sent back a thumbs up. Took a few mins and you get the information from someone who is an expert.

I've got the low cost amazon ultra good review ceramic coating, since the car is brand new and will have a full xpel wrap next week I was thinking of applying it myself, good idea ? Or more professionnal ceramic coating ?

Ceramic Coatings can look horrible if not installed correctly. I would be careful about applying a DIY coating to a new clear bra - you don't want to end up with streaks on the PPF and then have to try to polish the coating off.
IMO find a reputable installer to coat your car with a professional grade product.

We have a full Suntek Ultimate + Xpel Ultimate Plus combination wrap front to back (Xpel on the bumper and rockers, Suntek everywhere else), and we use this on it:
https://www.chemicalguys.com/Wrap_De...xoCNdUQAvD_BwE What I used to spend hours doing with previous cars, washing, waxing, buffing, polishing - and still ending up with swirl marks or spider webbing - now takes minutes and the car looks factory new every day. Easy to use, leaves no residue, saves time. |

Since I only drive the car on occasions, weekends and for track days I dumped the idea of topping my PPF with a ceramic coat. I don't drive the car enaugh and in situations were I would let the paint (PPF) become contaminated.
I just received a bottle of hydrosilex in the mail today and I will apply this myself and re-apply as needed every few months. On top of that the car is stored in my heated garage from November to April so it should last good and protect the PPF.

I have my whole nose wrapped in Xpel ultimate with a ceramic coating overtop. I used Carpro reset PH balanced wash & reload is a silica spray made to maintain ceramic coatings. The reload left what looks like cloudy stains on the PPF. I brought it back to my detailer because I tried everything but a DA and didn't want to risk screwing it up. He tried everything and finally broke out the DA and got it out but he had to strip the ceramic coating. So to make a long story short the ceramic coating has to be removed from the PPF and reapplied. Be careful what you put on your film xpel makes their own type of protectant called flawless finish you can use if you don't have a ceramic coating on your film. I'm sure there something you can apply to maintain I'm going to ask my detailer. I thought you can layer it just like your paint.

I don't use any wax on the XPEL. Fact is Windex is the best. It is after all just a plastic film. I spoke to the techs at XPEL about this.
Whatever you use just make sure it is not petroleum based. This will ruin the XPEL. |

Well I fell in love with the easyness of applying Hydrosilex and I'm having my Q5 decontaminated tomorrow and will be applying HS myself on the weekend.
I love the results over full PPF on my M2, dirt has a much harder time sticking to the car and washing is a piece of cake.
