Question Used 991.2 manual vs. New M2 CS manual?

I understand these 2 cars are not usually cross-shopped but I am.

Looking at a used 2017 991.2 Carrera 911S manual in Mexico Blue ($98k) with 10k miles or a new 2020 M2 CS manual in Misano Blue ($85k).

So, for +$13k I can get into a really nice Porsche...

I come from owning a e46 M3, (2) e92 M3, and an F80 M3 in the past - all manual...

Big BMW fan but the G82 just isn't doing it for me... this is my chance to get into a P-car but not sure it's worth it...

Thoughts?

I was debating these and decided that the M2CS. I think it's a reasonable cross shop. My thoughts are that the CS is a little more practical, and might be slightly more fun. Used 991.2s will still be around if the CS proves insufficient. Owners don't seem to drive their pcars, so low mileage examples are plenty. The Mexico Blue pcar will probably impress your friends more than the CS

Yeah, I'm not too worried about impressing my friends these days ha. I don't drive much so I want a garage queen "driver's car" and think both would fit the bill.

It will be my first forever car.

It's a really tough call. I see a lot of 991/992 models. I don't see one and think it's special. Every M2 turns my head. OG, comp, doesn't matter. I don't see them often. The CS won't be very distinguishable from other M2s to non enthusiasts.

If my heart leaned more towards grand tourers I'd probably go 991. If I wanted a car that I could get the tail out a bit for kicks I'd lean CS.

If it is about the drive the choice should be pretty distinct because they drive very differently. If you have not owned a Porsche and want to scratch that itch, then don't make the mistake of buying something else. I'm shopping M2 Competition's and have seen 3 low mileage M2c (and 2 M4cs) at nearby Porsche dealerships....expensive to be that guy. Lastly, I assume you have an ironclad MSRP allocation on M2cs? If not, I would be surprised if you pick one up at $85k

I'm not sure if I would classify a 991.2 S as a forever car even in a PTS color?

If you're thinking non-GT 911, I'd sooner go for a well optioned 911 Carrera T in PTS with LWBs, Sport-Chrono, RWS and Manual w/LSD. I like PCCBs myself for it's benefits but the standard brakes are also excellent and cost-effective.

you have to try Porsche
it's an excellent sports car but geared towards grand tourism

the M2 CS is a fun car that offers a lot of pleasure
linked to the 50/50 weight distribution the M2CS is intuitive easy to oversteer, the opposite of the Porsche which is reliable efficient but serious or even boring

It would be no question for me. 991.2 all day. I have a 991.2 Targa GTS and it’s the best car I’ve ever owned, which is now my 31st vehicle.

I don’t view the 991.2 Carrera S as a forever car. There is a bazillion of them and it’s not likely to go down as a favored iteration. The M2 CS, on the other hand, just feels special and will be my final ///M, forever in my stable. And with the CS, you will be the first and only owner.

I have one too and it's a keeper. I've been through nearly every M car since 1988 and stepped into porsches in 2008. if you haven't stepped into a porsche I would highly recommend it. While the M cars are fun the P cars are next level In terms of driving characteristics. I haven't driven am M car that comes close. Though they do have different personalities.

Have you taken delivery yet? If not, how can you say the M2CS 'feels' special?

This is good feedback. It looks like I'm going with the M2 CS after all. Key factor being that I wanted something truly "special" and not just the flashiest for the money.

I'll get my chance in a Porsche one day.

Kepler makes a good point, the CS is rare and unique. A Carrera S is a dime a dozen car that will be made every year.

Me personally I wish I can get a CS but no call from my dealer so doubtful. Only six weeks till year end so it is probably not happening. Probably going to get a new 911 in another year or so but not looking forward to the loan balance. The new M3/M4 are embarrassments to me.

See, this resonates with me profoundly, thank you. I found myself reading up a ton on Porsche the past week (I'm a P-car newbie) and came to the conclusion that the 991.2 likely won't age all that well and that people generally want the 997.2 or 992.

The fact that the M2 CS will be rare and unique is the reason I decided to go for it.

I originally passed on my dealers' 1st allocation of the M2 CS and regretted it the very next day. I happened to pop in on Thursday and was surprised my CA had a 2nd allocation for one, unclaimed and still in status 112. Just dropped off my deposit this afternoon and received my production # (week 50). Dealer selling for MSRP.

There are M2 CS out there! Keep looking and good luck!

I really do want a 911 one day despite me being a huge BMW fan. My head spins with the variety, cost differences, and options out there on the used-car market - it's daunting. I've never even driven a 911, but I know I want one, just too much of a n00b to know which one.

I know zero sales guys at local Porsche dealers so even thinking about an allocation for a new one would seem very unlikely for me. Meanwhile, when I walk into my BMW dealer everyone knows my name and feel like I'm at home.

Was 1st on the list and passed on my dealers' one and only allocation in mid-September. It was gone an hour after I told them no and have regretted it ever since. They didn't call me back but when I popped in last week they offered me a 2nd surprise allocation and waited the weekend to decide. Happy I was able to secure it!

Saving the manuals!

Nice. Mine shows an m2cs and x5. I'm thinking I'd like to see a 992 turbo in the garage with the CS at some point. I can't seem to shake the desire to have one. Who knows.

All but maybe the smallest Porsche dealerships will be able to come up with a Carrera S allocation for you with little to no effort. It's not a GT2/3/4 and is not hard to get. It will always be there, so passing for now comes with no risk of missing out.
