I installed mine, every attention to detail was covered. Perfect straight cut in correct location, filed and beveled edge. swaged spot even over tunnel brace, 1 finger clearance, hangers slightly forward to allow rearward heat expansion and of course....on cold start it rattles like an old man on a cold morning
But I put up with it non the F82 so am used to it.... I blame it on the bMW cold start

Mine was port installed and it wasn't to long before I heard banging and saw the tips sticking out further then when I got the car. On the lift I noticed the clamps were not tight allowing the MPE to slide rearward, it was also sagging due to the loose clamps and hitting the cross piece. Pushed it together and tightened the clamps problem solved, hasn't loosened since.

Resurrecting an old thread because I have the MPE and just started experiencing the rattle on startup a few days ago. As several others indicated, I found the exhaust had slid out of the clamp about 1/2" as seen in the first photo. I simply loosened the clamp, slid the exhaust back in and tightened it down really well. If the rattle comes back, I'm planning to buy a flex joint and have it welded in.

There has to be a better solution than welding it...and I really think BMW should fix this...its their product

If none of the previous solutions fix the rattle you may want to check the fixing bow, 18-30-7-620-323. Some how this fell off my my stock exhaust and caused a nasty rattle.

Experiencing the same, except I don’t think the exhaust tips are my problem because I don’t even have exhaust tips on there yet! Just running the exhaust. Could installing exhaust tips and tightening everything down correctly possibly get rid of the rattle?

I’m also gettin metallic rattling while st certain rpms during driving...

Quick question, how does the MPE + DP Fabsppeed sound with the valves closed? i had the stock exhaust + DP and it sounded great, but i just recently got the MPE + DP but i dont have the B/T functionality of the MPE right now so the valves are stuck open with the Fabspeed and its pretty elfin loud.

Does the valves closed on MPE + FAB DP still sound louder than Stock exhaust + Fabspeed?

Thank you!!

Technically, they licensed it and stuck it under their brand...they should support it

True but it's not something they can address in-house since they outsourced the design and labor to someone else. They'd have to contact RA and have them do it and seeing as that would probably cost BMWAG more money I'm sure they won't be doing it.

They can replace it with V2...you having issues ? Not sure which version you have on your PE.

It should be covered under your warranty since it came on the car.

I know mine is covered under BMWs 2 year parts warranty.

Pretty sure mine is a V2 ... they all have this problem...the mid-pipe just slips off

After a couple of months of dealing with the MPE exhaust rattle, I finally found a permanent solution. I put the car on a lift and found the sleeve coupling (clamp band) between the mid-pipe and exhaust kept coming loose and rattling against the cross brace as mentioned in the very first post in this thread. No matter how hard I tightened it down, it was only a matter of time before it came loose again.

The solution is to get rid of the sleeve coupling and have a proper v-band flange installed. I found a 3" stainless steel v-band flange made by Vibrant Performance that worked perfectly for $75. There are less expensive versions out there which are aluminum, so make sure you pay attention and get the stainless steel version to mate to your stainless steel exhaust pipe.

I looked around my area for a shop with a TIG welder who could do the work, and found a local hot rod fabricator called Steel Farm Customs (SFC) who specialize in all kinds of custom builds working on everything from a Ferrari to an original 1932 hot rod - making my exhaust mod a walk in the park. TIG welders are harder to come by than MIG welders, and from what I have read both can do the job but TIG is cleaner and more precise than MIG welding. Your choice.

The guys at SFC put the car on the lift and dropped the exhaust while leaving it on the car. The Vibrant v-band is 1" thick, so they cut exactly 1" off of the midpipe to make room. Next, they simply TIG welded each of the v-band flanges onto the midpipe and exhaust and put everything back together. It took just over an hour and cost about $100. It looks great and the rattle is 100% gone forever.

So about $200 all-in? Not bad...though BMW should be providing this option...

Thanks for this thread, I was able to fix my rattle in about 10 minutes. Spent more time just making sure I had the car jacked up securely. Hopefully slipping the two pipe sections back together and re-tightening everything will last. It's been about a week so far and the rattle hasn't come back.

The funniest thing was that the previous owner told me he had the dealer check it out and they said it was normal. It was literally like a jack hammer was banging under the seats on cold startup with the pipes rattling on the cross bracket. How he could have ever thought that is "normal" is beyond me!

Any update? Are you still rattle free?

Well, that didn't last long, just like many others found. Slipped back loose after probably 300-400 miles of driving. I'm taking it into BMW to see what they come up with. If they don't provide a fix, I guess I'll do something more permanent, similar to what Nothingman did.

Don't hold your breath...too small a population with this problem...they can't fix it

Yes, I’m still rattle free with several thousand miles on the car and a punishing HPDE event since the fix and not a single rattle from the MPE.
