Limp mode on track

I have M2C with DCT, Last winter I put a Dinan heat exchanger for warm desert days on the track. This Summer, on the track mid day, Limp mode occurred once in Laguna, I let it go and a second time 3 weeks ago at Big Willow. I was pushing the car hard, following really fast cars. I went back in, cooled it off and restarted the car everything went normal, I didn't push it as hard. Oil Temps were very steady around 240.
What do you guys think? recommend? I am thinking overheating of DCT fluid.

Did it pull any codes? That should give you an indicator for the limp mode.

if I remember well, it gave me an error and the car went very slow, RPM would not come higher than 3-4k.

So no CEL? If thats the case, I dont know if a CEL is necessary for the code to be stored. Good luck, hopefully someone on this board has experience. I would post on the track section, maybe someone had this happen to them?

I have not experienced limp mode in 5 days on track and 3 autocross events but they've been mostly cooler weather.

I do recall M5s & M6s with DCT all going into limp mode at COTA in 90+ heat. It was the DCT. You could run 1/2 lap at lower RPMs in D, and get another lap or 2 in before limp mode. But that was when they were new out in 2013.

I think there are DCT transmission oil coolers available but I thought the M2C had one already ????

For reference to the event.....

I will look into that, thank you.

So from what I know there are four temperatures you need to watch:
- Intake Air Temperature
- Oil Temperature
- Coolant Temperature
- DCT Temperature

I don't know jack about DCT temperature but I've read elsewhere that IAT, Oil, and Coolant can all cause limp modes at various levels. Maybe BimmerLink + Data Logging to see what's spiking. I'm under the impression the coolant limp mode does not throw a code. Once you know what's spiking you know what cooling system needs upgrading.

I know Oil and coolant temps were very normal, because of my heat exchanger and cooling additives, temps never went above 240. Intake air should have been within normal limits, outside temps peaked at 90. Only DCT left. I will try to read for any codes tonight in case any is stored. Thank you, very helpful.

No codes, thanks to others on this site, I am narrowing it to fuel in the tank being low and sloppy shifting to overheating of DCT. Thank you all.
