Dash cams are much smaller, have lenses with an appropriate field of view, automatic recording, motion detection event recording, multiple video sources, designed to run for extended periods, heat tolerant capacitor. For replay there's available meta data with GPS, time/date info. Dash Cam Talk has everything you'd want to know on the subject.

I can't tell you why you would need one but here in Florida it's a no fault state so if there is no witness then it's no fault. For example I was at a redlight and a govt van rear ended me at a red light I guess he though the light changed to green and went without looking ahead. Cop came and said no fault. So no one got tickets and each driver has to fix their own car.

That was with my gti and 3 years ago I was in the very right lane and a lady in a fiat came over on me and her right front wheel hit my driver side back door to rear quarter panel. She came out and said sorry and that she hit and it was her fault. When the cop came she said she don't know what happened so cop put no fault. So I said to the cop it clear her car is not damaged and you see tire marks at the back half of my car. He said he can't make that judgment so no fault. He also refused to check street cam and they wouldn't give insurance access to the street cam either.

Any recommendations on a dashcam that can be hardwired into the rearview mirror?
https://www.amazon.com/FalconZero-F1...dp/B014S09OKO/ The one above seems good, but looking for some actual user feedback. |

I record everything front/rear on my go pros and I crashed my M2 months ago because a lady made an illegal 2 lane change in front of me and pushed me into a guard rail...
Not only did I only get 20% fault but her insurance company had to write me a small depreciation check for the loss in value for my car...ALWAYS RECORD. BTW, originally did it for police because I kept getting harassed and rights crapped on...Now when they know they are on tape they are very well behaved heres the vid: (yea i was going a bit fast 50mph to be exact, but no matter what it looked like she was pulling into her appropriate lane until the last sec, and after she tapped me she cut the heel into me hard AGAIN which did most of the damage... Lady lied to cops said she was just driving on service rd and i side swiped her...Witnesses 1. a STi fanatic, 2. a ap biker both left phone numbers and backed me up...

Just go pro 3+ mounted on front bumper in black housing and one on rear bumper. DSLR Mic on rear between tail pipes, and a condensor mic on the front going into the engine bay next to my intake filter... Then Just a go pro remote mounted in the car... I take them with me when I leave the car...They are also teathered in case they fall off...

Just curious, does the dash cam come on when you are parked, just as the guy who wants the nice dash cam smashes your window to steal it????
None of them are very small. The mounts are the biggest part! I tried to find a source of a unit with the electronics hidden, say in the trunk, and small camera on a wire that can be hidden. So instead I use a GoPro Session, it's pretty small but of the MOUNT! LOL Mike

Here's the Street Guardian SGZC12RC's camera and windshield mount. When placed by the rearview mirror on my 335i, it wasn't noticeable inside or outside of the car:

Thank you, I was reading on their website, it's pretty nice.....but I still think the camera on the stick could be smaller.
