If anyone keeps their car parked in an open area in front of their house, etc. with open access, I would highly recommend a faraday box for their key fobs

Move to London and you'll understand even a driveway is a premium...

I have the same question… if the key was not used at the time, how do they intercept a signal?

Keyless entry is a different mechanism, the car sends a signal to the key first, and the key answers with a lock/unlock signal. It is designed to only work at a close distance to the car because the signal is very weak, but with large antennas like this, you can act as a relay and amplify the signals to receive/propagate them over longer distances. With some cars that have poorly designed security systems, you can even do this over very long distances (e.g. someone follows you in a mall and relays your car keys' signal over 5G to someone else in a parking lot trying to unlock/start your car). There is no real fix for it, it's just a design issue. You can only prevent it by storing your keys in a faraday cage. |

There are numerous online. Just make sure you research and read reviews to be sure it's a legit working one

I mentioned in a couple threads that I wonder if this is why bmw actually removed it on the CS as this vulnerability was well known for the F generation cars by that point. Given the unique nature of the CS making them harder to steal isn't a bad thing.
Watch the YouTube video of the Lock Picking Lawyer go through the M4 door lock too. Fun times. If you get a Faraday cage box take it out to the car and confirm your keyless entry doesn't work etc. A bunch don't work. I use this one which is apparently not available anymore : Faraday Car Key Box | Signal... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08N6KG2ZD...p_mob_ap_share Make sure the mesh wraps over the seams and mates at all the joints. |

Lol I don't have one at the apartment because the covered garage is attached adjacent to the apartment building so it's well out of range. At the house, my brother bought one but I'm not exactly sure which one. The one I linked I did do a quick search on. One customer brought it inside their car and put the fob in it and the car couldn't recognize the key then. So if it worked from inside the car it should be all good from inside the house 👍🏼

Try it out. Amazon got free returns but it sounded legit and had a ton of 5 star reviews

Although true, it's not a good argument. If they have that sort of situation, and drive that sort of car, it's prudent to take steps to insure that it doesn't get stolen...unless you want it to, of course.

No way to properly do so. Telling you, you got keyless entry, park on the street, it’ll get stolen. That’s why a lot of Land Rovers are so expensive to insure out there, among many others. Their housing just isn’t like the US. You could have a house in Hampstead for 3mil and you might still end up having to park along the street.

No, BMW removes things that weigh like 2 lbs like this, the arm rest, and dual zone HVAC to make you feel the denial "because racecar". It's a psychological strategy that Porsche uses also because a little pain makes people like the car even more. The Comp was produced longer than the CS and Comfort Access was available until the very last car produced.
