GT4 vs M2 CS Comparison

Saw this one on my recommends this morning. Big praise that he prefers the CS to the gt4 after driving them back to back.

I think he reviewed the wrong GT4. I still think the 981 GT4 is better than the 718. 4.0 doesn’t sound as great as the older 3.8. Heavier clutch, way better shifter, better exhaust note and slightly better looking interior I think in the 981. I’m probably in the minority in this but I’ve spent enough time with both that’s just where I land on the subject. I’d say 981 > CS > 718.

He reviewed my M2CS. The fun part was that I got to review the GT4 at the same time since it is my buddy's. His review is spot on. The one thing that I would say is that the turbo lag is minimal compared to turbos of old. You can access the torque in the M2CS and M2C immediately coming out of slow corners. In fact in the M2CS it comes in much more smoothly so you can throttle modulate with better control.

The GT4 certainly has higher agility but not by much, lower center of gravity, polar inertia is clearly better due to mid engine layout. But it lacks torque at low rpm, and tbh is uninspiring below 5500. It does sound amazing and pulls well above that. However. The surprise for me was that the steering wheel is indeed better in the M2CS than the GT4, and it is a significant improvement over the M2C given the structural carbon roof, significantly less unsprung weight especially with carbon ceramic brakes and the lightweight gold wheels.

The surprise to me was that there was a significant amount of understeer in the GT4 on initial turn-in which makes sense given the almost perfect mid engine balance. The M2CS has incredible turn in especially if you brake hard and late to get the weight over the front wheels. Lastly, I generally prefer the oversteer fun nature of the M2 CS over the GT4.

I look forward to driving the GT4 on the track where it clearly comes alive and is likely better than the M2 CS although clearly the M2CS is no slouch from experience and has an incredible top end compared to the M2C which is software limited annoyingly.

oh nice - he's the same dude that popped up on my yt feed just as he bought his integra type S for msrp. I was cross shopping between the ITS and CTR as an addition. lol

His analysis is spot on. He hit all the great points on the M2cs. In the end he chose the M2cs being the bargain over the GT4. Completely agree, I would choose the M2cs over the GT4 as well.

Agree. Can't drive a car on paper and Zygrene does a great job sussing out the subjective nuances that comes with comparing 439+ Cars on the exact same stretch of canyon road. I drove that road myself frequently and it's hilly, some parts are bumpy and full of on and off camber s curves with an unforgiving cliff on one side. It leads up to Mt. Hamilton and that whole route up and over the peak is stunning and super fun.

that road is fantastic. Have driven it a few times heading up to Lick Observatory. Plenty of hairpins and narrow chicanes where you can get a good feel of the chassis. However, it can be bit overwhelming to some and make sure your passenger doesn't upchuck their breakfast. lol

It's a perfect road for a WRC stage.

For sure! It favors shorter wheelbase cars with high torque.

My old 911 Targa4S loved that road even though it felt wider than the CS. But my Mini absolutely slays it there. Most fun.
