F80 M3 owner test drives M2

Hey guys,

So I stopped by my dealership today for mandatory service and to my surprise, there was a white M2 out on the lot. So I almost jokingly asked the salesman if I could take it for a ride and to my surprise, he said to go for it! I won't bore you with a multi-page diatribe, so here is my high-level review:

Power:

I was able to get on the M2 pretty good and it did not leave me disappointed. It is a good deal faster than the M235i while a little behind the M3. So in this department, I would say it is smack in the middle between those two cars, which is a good place to be.

Handling:

This was interesting, as I didn't find any discernible difference in steering feel between this and my M3. BUT, I will say that the car felt a bit more nimble, so I can definitely see the appeal there.

Interior:

I was a little let down here, as the interior is pretty much identical to that of the M235. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing, but it lags well behind the M3 / M4 in fit, finish and materials.

Overall:

The M2 is an awesome machine no doubt, it honestly surprised me. I almost think it's a disservice to compare the M2 and the M3 / M4 as both cars are really THAT good. That being said, for my needs, the M3 wins out by a nose but I would absolutely consider one in the future.

Interesting write up, thank you. Out of curiosity, were they selling the M2 at MSRP or with a markup?
