Said Bye to My M2 Today!

I don't know how to start this thread but as some of you might know, I was waiting for the M2 since last summer and was #1 at my dealership. Also, I was fortunate enough to receive a May allocation last week. I was very excited but still had some second thoughts. I always wanted to lease my next car since owning a car for 4-5+ years too long for me. I knew M2 wasn't going to be like any other car, I knew it was going to be something special but I still couldn't imagine myself paying $900 plus per month for M2 while I could lease an M3/4 for much less. I also didn't want to regret my decision after my purchase.

Long story short, today I placed an order for a Sakhir Orange 2016 M4 ZCP with MPE. I got an amazing deal (invoice + $500 - fleet discount) for lease and I just couldn't pass on that. Hopefully, it will be here sometime in June.

Here is the part you guys are most curious about probably: Who got my allocation or is it still available? I tried really hard to convince my dealer to give my spot to someone else. All I wanted was to give my spot to one of you guys here. I would really like to make a forum member's day but my CA said the spot is going directly to the second person on the list

Congratulations to all new and prospective M2 buyers! You guys are getting an amazing car and I know that I will get excited whenever I see an M2 on the road. But I will make sure to give you guys a thumbs-up

How is an M2 lease much more expensive than M3/M4?

In Australia you'd be looking at a $40k price difference, or around 45%.

Try living in a country where the taxes aren't buttfuckingly ridiculous.

Taxes have nothing to do with my question.

The M3/M4 is MORE expensive than the M2, so how can the M2 lease be 'much more expensive' vs M3/M4?

Residual for M2 is horrible in the US, at least for now. For that reason, I was going to buy it with a small down payment.

My M2 build was around $60K while I got my M4 for $77K ($84K MSRP) and as I said, the residual for M2 is pretty bad. That's how you end up paying less for M3/4.

Sad to hear you won't be joining the M2 family but congrats on the M4! That would of been my choice if i couldn't get the M2 this year.

Reading previously what the US guys have been saying is that apparently with the discounts offered on the M3/M4 the price difference over the M2 can be quite marginal, unlike here.

OP congrats. I understand. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices but still a great car

J/k fantastic M4.

What's the math behind low residual values for M2 vs M3/4. Too new? Future expectations?

Cheers

The "sale" price on the lease will still be considerable, but BMW Financial Services plays with the numbers BIG TIME. When sales are slow, they will artificially raise the residual or lower the money factor, or BOTH sometimes. Back in the day, the lease for E93 M3's was ridiculous for a $85k car- at times less than a coupe.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

According to many forum members, it's too new like you said. I guess BMW just didn't want to risk anything in case there is not enough interest for the first year production of the car. I do think that residuals will get better in the upcoming months or at least next year though.

I should also add that my decision was not solely based on my finances. The color of the car played an important role too. My order was LBB and that was the only option for me since I couldn't love other 3 colors for various reasons. However, reading many conflicting reviews about LBB made me think again and again. I guess I didn't want to be surprised in a bad way when I received my car. I think it would make a lot of people's lives easier if M2 had some sort of red as a color option.

Sorry to see you leave the M2 family. I think you did it for a good reason. The lease terms are terrible because of the residual. If you could write it off on your taxes it might make more sense but I would be surprised to see many lease this car until the residuals come up. I am going to go with BMW Select, It is the best of both worlds really, I take the depreciation risk which is fine with me, I keep my cars perfect and this one will be driven 8-10k a year so it should be worth at least the balloon payment by the time I get to the end. Just debating on the how many years to go for.

On the dealer refusing to allow you to transfer your allocation I actually think that is the right thing to do even though I got my allocation from a guy here that changed his mind. As a customer on the list I would be upset if I learned a guy above me was bailing and the dealership didn't pass that allocation down to me.

Best of luck with the M4 I am sure you will love it.

I had reservations about LBB as well, even after I saw it on the X6M, however, in person and on an M2, I was sooooo glad I got LBB. It may even be my favorite BMW Blue that I've ever owned (That list includes Estoril Blue e36 M3 and Laguna Seca Blue E46 M3). Sakhir Orange is freakin awesome too though. I saw that in person and let me tell you that with the ZCP blackout grilles/gills/etc, it will look Aces!

BMW wants you to lease the M3/4. They don't want you to lease the M2 - the residuals and MF are reflective of the difference.

f8x lease terms were bad when the car first released as well back in 2014.
give it a year or so and things will level out and we can probably see M2 leases in the 6-700s$
