Having daily driven E46 M3's for over 7 years, I'd say the above description is the exact opposite of one. They have no torque and make no power until you get above 4500.

Are you saying the M2 has the general qualities of an E46 M3, but it also has lots of torque and power?

Great looking car btw.
YES! Absolutely.

My Ex owns an E46 M3. It's a great car with the wrong motor for people that aren't track rats. Has no balls under 4K and needs to go to 8k for fun. When you get to 5k it's a hoot. Great for track and windy roads but the 1M and M2 have TORQUE!

Even more torque than the E90 M3.

Torque is WONDERFUL In the city because there is serious power available from 2000 rpm in *any* gear. Passing is simple. No downshift needed - ever. Accelerating at any time is a serious rush immediately. No waiting for revs. Rather than winding the car out you whoosh everywhere on a sea of torque.

As far as size , 1M and e46 are nearly identical.
M2 is wider and a few inches longer overall but it's not so big that E46 owners would think it's too big.

If you own an E46 M3 and think it's a great daily driver, the 1M and M2 with turbo motors are infinitely more easy to drive as a daily

Took a look at my car at the dealer today too... So much more aggressive in real life. I think the front is quite ugly in most photos but it looks awesome in real life.

BMW changed the behavior of ASS in 2014 - at least for the F30. It should remember last setting now.

Now, the drive mode setting always defaults back to Comfort and you have to change it every time you start the car.

It's an interesting discussion - my 981 doesn't have a ton of torque, but I actually enjoy the process of dropping a few gears to get into the desired power band. "Easy" can translate into boring if you aren't paying attention - not that it's the case with the M2, but in general...

Good to have both options with the different cars available.

Congrats there friend! You will have a great summer no doubt. Very happy for BMW of Atlantic City dealership claiming first in the forum! The staff there is amazing. Their M guy Pete Ballias there was a huge part of making the 2014 BIMMMERPOST F80-82 Trip possible and helping us again this year for our huge M2 trip in May! It's going to be Epic ?

Oh no it's not boring. It gets fast QUICK and almost disturbingly so if you really put your foot in it.

The M2 Is quicker than my car so it's also gotta be scary fast.

For awhile I agreed with you about choices. But then ask a racing driver where he wants power and torque and the likely answer is " everywhere".

All I know is that sooner is more fun in daily driving.

Sorry I was not clear. The driving dynamics remind me of the ZCP, the power is far superior in this car. The e46 was lacking in TQ.... Ok we are all on the same page now sorry.

Is there rev matching on upshifts too? Do you feel like there is play/movement in the drivetrain?

Seriously? M2 electric steering better than E90 M3 hydraulic steering? Can you please double confirm?

I bought my second M3 E9X just for the steering feel alone.

Congrats OP! Love the car..(not a 'white car fan', but it's an M2, so you get a pass from me ).

Nice to read an honest opinion of first impressions. Good luck with it and keep us posted.

The servo steering on the e9x m3 is highly subjective within this forum and those who have driven the e9x.

Sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't. Even semi pros like Chris Harris wasn't fond of it but then Ben Collins raved about it in recent m2 review.

As for lack of torque down low in the NA car like e46 and e9x, the reason I went fm two 335s to m3 was I missed having to learn what gear I needed to be at at what rpm and all in my daily driving. But then I also miss the torque in daily driving as well.
