No idea, but I'm also getting more skeptical as time moves on.
Quote:
Back in the day a BMW UK product manager told a UK magazine (see here): "There is scope for a CSL version. This car [1M] has certainly generated a buzz. When we planned for this car we were cautious, but now there’s some hype surrounding the 1M so there’s clearly going to be some people looking at what we can do next. M is the pinnacle of engineering so if there’s a CSL proposition or something really different that we could consider then we would. If there’s something special and unique we can do with it then absolutely we would. However, losing weight from cars is really expensive and the 1M fits very well at the moment at £40k. Whether it’d work as well at £60k just because it’s a bit quicker and lighter then I don’t know."As we all know, in the end BMW developed a MotoGP Safety Car 1M (not for sale), but no 1M CSL. Probably time, budget and weight constraints have torpedoed the 1M CSL idea. And what happened with the 2700 figure for scheduled 1M cars: did the car go 'limited edition' ? Well on the contrary: 1M production got cranked up to max production limits in September 2011 and 6309 1M were built (BMW Leipzig plant) (end of production: June 2012). No limited edition (some markets received quota: 450 for the UK, 740 for the US, etc.), but - that much is true - IRL available in limited quantities. Interesting point to note: pricing ball-park figure for 1M CSL was told 1M x ±150%, alike an E46 M3 CSL was E46 M3 x ±150%, alike an M4 CS (zero options) is told to cost M4 x ±148%. None of those cars were/are limited edition models.

I think if your heart is set on an M2, then you pull the trigger now. If you have a few cars that fit the bill, and are at the top couple of slots on CS list, then roll the dice.
There will be used M2s on the market, and still a shot at a regular m2 if you wait |

They are probably going to present M2 CS in Geneva (8th March 2018), but the specs should be known from Jan-Feb so you can wait till the end of the year. If you don't like what M2 CS turns out to be, you can still order M2 LCI (or something else) for the next driving season.

There is a guy on the 2ertalk.de forum who was the original source that an M2 CS was coming and would be released in March 2018.He is the one who said that it would replace the regular M2.So no more regular M2 production when the M2 CS is released.Probably not going to happen because ynguldyn already said that regular M2 production would continue after the M2 CS is released.

It's almost the end of the year and no M4 CS deliveries or pricing information...:
Not feeling optimistic that this M2 CS will arrive in a timely manner.

Jeremy Clarkson when he test drove an M2 (with manual transmission) in The Grand Tour: "I think this is the best M car BMW has ever made. | This car happily has an old back-to-basics approach. | Klaus and Fritz, I am loving your work. | This isn't as fast in a straight line as an M3, but everywhere else it is better. It feels less heavy, less cumbersome, and due to the unique characteristics of our straight, I can tell the steering is less twitchy. | This thing is an absolute masterpiece. I can say it is the best M car BMW has ever made. It's mad to suggest the cheapest M car is the best. But look at it this way: this track is a lot cheaper than Silverstone, and I know which one I'd rather drive around. | It's a fabulous car, it's a brilliant car, it really honestly is." Clocked already over 25K kms with mine and can say that it's a wicked car.

If only 1000 of these get made which will mostly not be the case, I really don't think there will be a CSL/GTS. Wouldn't make sense making another ultra limited model. Also, I think the initial demand that we saw for the M2 is starting to die down. A couple of California dealerships that I had called when I had tried to get an M2 a little over a year ago called back within the last 3 months or so letting me know that they had cars on the lot and allocations if I was still interested. Maybe BMW knows this and hence reducing total production to just 1000 units.
Really not sure what BMW is trying to do and how many M2 derivatives we'll be getting. Last edited by Gatte; 09-04-2017 at 10:42 PM.. |

I was looking to have either an M2 or the CS by March/April of 2018... after the salt washes away.
-If i get the M2, I can have the car in March. I am going to look into replacing the hood and possibly the roof with something a bit more aggressive and a few other Carbon Fiber bits. Most likely will do the Dinan S2 package. So, for 15k I will have @ 440hp and 450tq, as well as some aggressive looks, upgraded suspension, better cooling/breathing, and the Mineral Grey I want. -If i wait for CS, I may have it by May? September? So, for 10-20k over stock M2 It probably will have the aggressive look, 410 hp and +450tq, upgraded suspension, better cooling, but not the Mineral Grey i want. Did i just talk myself into the 2018 LCI with Dinan S2 and carbon fiber parts? I am quite afraid of the dealership's part in all of this. I am not a long-time bmw buyer. I dont have a pedigree in my garage. While i am technically #1 at my dealership for CS, Will they sell to me as a first time BMW owner?() Will they sell one to me without a massive mark-up?(not likely) I would hate to pass up on the M2 in march, only to wait til May-Aug-October? to find out i have no chance at a CS.

An M2 in the garage is worth two in the bush... or something to that effect Plus.. it's tough to compromise away from a color that you already like. MG M2 are definitely rare. If you want a seriously fun collectible the 6MT in MG is the way to go. A CS would be in Hockenheim silver - likely a stunning combo in a completely different way than MG. |

I've been waiting almost a month to get the car protected by XPEL. So I've been driving gingerly avoiding highways and stonechips.
And all I could drive in the interim was the missus 125. Fun. But not quite the same. Every time I get to drive the M2 there's a sense of occasion. Admitted the M Performance steering wheel helps. As does the M Performance exhaust. I think if I had to wait 6 months, it'd be torture. Unless I had something else that was to drive in the interim. Like maybe a GT4 - my father in law seems to really think that's the car I really want. So I might just skip the M2 CS and change to the next Porker ? |
