S55 M2C Sport+ Intake / Turbo Noise Difference even with ASD off and Valves open

Could use some help here:

In sport+, there’s a noticeable turbo / intake noise.

At first I thought it was cause of the exhaust valves being open, but I now have an exhaust valve controller that runs them open all the time, and the turbo/intake/spool noise is still only noticeable in Sport+

I’ve coded out ASD, so that should not be an influence.

Anyone know what may be causing it? I like the noise, and would like to have it all the time if possible … not just in sport+ mode as I’m not the biggest fan of the throttle response and also the additional cooling/coolers being utilized

Current setup:
OEM air filters and OEM carbon filters
ASD coded off via BimmerCode
OEM exhaust
Exhaust valves run always-open via BMS canflap module

Hi. I also thought the my car had a more pronounced turbo noise in Sport+, see this thread:

https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2143982

But after some testing I realised that it was mostly about engine load. Try going WOT going uphill, and I promise you’ll hear the sound more noticeably, no matter if you’re in Sport+ or not.

Thanks. For my scenario, it’s definitely not the load, as I hear the difference right away switching in and out of Sport+ with the same acceleration / throttle pressure / flat road / etc.

But maybe the waste gate that was mentioned in your thread?

That's strange. Can you describe the sound you are talking about?

- A high pitched turbo spooling sound?

- A whooshing sound as the boost is building?

- Something else?

Do you notice the sound going from Eco to Sport+ or from Sport to Sport+?

I hear absolutely no difference. I don't hear my turbos at all actually, regardless of what mode i'm in. In Sport+, the increase power is definitely substantial though.

Do you have the OEM intakes? If not, have you removed the charcoal filters? AFAIK, EDM models don't have them, and I can definitely hear very pronounced induction/turbo noises when the engine is under load, going uphill with WOT.

You need good headphones, with the volume turned way up, but in this video (especially at 22:23), you can hear the "ptshhh"- sound. It's very subtle, but it's there. IRL the sound is more noticeable. Every time my engine is under load, at full boost, and I abruptly release the throttle, I hear this pressure-release sound.

I haven’t driven the car in awhile but for my instance, it’s not blow off / diverter valve pressure release that you’re referring to when you come off throttle… but rather whoosh or high pitched air (to my ears those are kind of the same) noise while still accelerating.

The noise in the video is the guy breathing through his nose that the microphone is picking up. No turbo noise at all in that video that I heard at full volume on my phone.

Yes, OEM intakes. All stock. Haven’t removed the charcoal filters.

It's very subtle and you won't hear it without headphones, but yes there is a blow-off sound in the video (check the timestamp). Although the mic isn't good enough to pick up the spooling/wooshing sound.

That's probably why. The filter is quite thick, so it works as a sound insulator.

Well, now you have something to tinker with when the weekend comes

Yessss! The absolute madman!

Now, do you hear any difference when going WOT uphill and then abruptly letting go of the gas pedal at about 4-5k rpm?

*please say yes, or I'll be very embarrassed*

Is it only slightly louder or noticeably louder?

Haven’t driven it yet so don’t know. Will report back once I do!
