Can't decide between 18" or 19"

Hi guys,

These are all stolen photos from the internet so credits go to whoever took them!

I'm looking at Volk ZE40's for my M2C (which arrives in less than 2 weeks now!) but I can't decide between 18" or 19". I feel like 19" looks too big but I'm also worried about 18" looking too small... Just wondering what the general opinions are because I've never owned a M2 let alone spent any time around one, so I'm not sure what looks best. I'll post in the subsequent two posts so the photos can be separated.

White. White and bronze go well together so I'm planning on bronze.

my backup is titanium silver but honestly I haven't seen any pictures of titanium silver ZE40's. Here's so TS CE28's for comparison.

Warren,

Does yr M2C come with std blue 380/370 brakes or the M sport upgraded grey 400/380 brakes ?

If Blue then 18" or 19" is an option.

If grey then its 19" only as bigger brakes wont fit 18" wheels.

I have the optional ones, which if I go with 18" I will sell and get another kit that fits 18". Already have several interested parties.

I'm thinking non OEM, either AP Racing or Brembo - I think OEM solution is a downgrade from the factory BBK... If I switch it out I want something "better".

I love the Ze40s and I think the Matted Blue Gunmetal would look great on white car. I wish these wheels were more accessible in the US.

They are! There are companies you can work through in Japan (that even speak english!) that ship directly to you by air and have only a small commission. My main gripe with Volk in the US is that Mackin is the sole distributor, they ship all wheels by boat so it's always a 6 month lead time, and they have a fat markup.

Maybe you might be spending a lot of money for little or no gain.

Std F8x blue brakes with decent pads, BF and new flex hoses (as necessary) will outperform OE m sport setup and probably match aftermarket in terms of braking performance, heat mgmnt and consistency

AP’s blow away anything from BMW and are substantially lighter.

You should make this decision based on the tire sizes and compounds you want to run. There tends to be larger width options available for the rear in 19s, but you’ll need to spec your offsets correctly.

Lots of info in this section of the forum and the Track section on what works.

Based on your F82 pics, AW/bronze will look sweet!

I totally hear you, which is why I want to sell the bmw kit as soon as possible once I get the car so I can get as much as I can for it. I'm thinking it will heavily offset the price of a new bbk so I should only be out of pocket ~$1-2k. So the difference in price, to me, between 18 and 19 inch wheels to install is only $1-2k. I believe 18" tires will be a lot cheaper moving forward though.

Actually all tire sizes I want are carried in both 18 and 19 inch sizes, there will be a difference in price though so I guess over time switching to 18's saves money?

Yeah, 18s are generally cheaper if you find the same tire and width in 19s.

For a track rat the choice is pretty obvious but since your spending big money on wheels apparently for looks your probably not going to wear a set of tires per season so the cheaper 18inch won't make that big of a difference.

Unless your telling us your going to trash it around a track every weekend ?

the 19inch may command better price at resell, maybe ?

If you’re a track rat, 19” staggered is faster than 18”.

But, that doesn’t seem to be the goal for the OP.

I was under the impression that 18" is better than 19" for the track. I hadn't heard that about staggered 19".

I've actually already been in touch with the President of the M2 club in Korea, and they have multiple events every quarter. I'm not saying I'll be at every one of them but I do plan on tracking it regularly, hence the weight savings, upgraded unsprung weight components, etc.

I definitely think you can have both looks AND performance, you don't have to have one or the other. So yes I am concerned with how a wheel setup looks on the car because I want it to look good too. Plus, Volks are extremely light and I'm one country over from Japan and can get a set for cheap Volks are also well known for their resale value - the set I have on my s2000 are worth more than when I bought them, for example.

Maybe a left field suggestion - might be worth talking to Racing Brake to buy these components of their 380mm front brake package

This package includes:
•2 ea. RB front 2-pc heavy duty 380x36mm rotors
•2 ea. Brand new 6 piston calipers from BMW dealer - N/A as you can re-use M2C grey calipers
•2 ea. RB light weight aluminum alloy adapters
•4 ea. M12 12.9 grade alloy steel caliper mounting bolts
•1 ea. Front set of RB XT910 street performance brake pads

You’d also have to source caliper brackets appropriate for the smaller rotors.
