Unhappy Charge pipe & boost / turbo inlet pipe replacement parts

TL;DR
They are all make of plastic, work in high heat and pressurised environment, will eventually break. Replace all.

Charge pipe (inlet -> throttle body) one broke yesterday after filling the fuel tank. Felt the difference of exhaust sound (ASD was OFF) after a stop/start, throttle response was also clearly different, it behaved very much like a N52 without turbo lol No turbo boost kick-in any more.

Bad feeling something may have broken (plastic pieces) in the intake part.

Used BimmerLink to do a diagnostic and there was
- Error code 102001 Air mass, plausibility: air mass too high
- Error code 118002 Mixture control: Mixture too rich
and lots of other complications.

Opened the bonnet and immediately noticed a broken charge pipe cracked off the throttle body...

Questions:

- Not going to mod the turbocharger so will keep the stock intercooler (lots of plastic bits - hoses...)
- not going for BM3 stage 2
- not going to touch the intake (very little benefit in terms of power gain vs $)

Need to replace

1. charge pipe (of course)
Was looking at FTP motorsport charge pipe and VRSF one

2. boost pipe

3. turbo inlet pipe

Have checked

MST boost pipe
https://southernbm.com.au/products/m...-435i-m2-rdbxe

FTP Motorsport - BMW N55 M2, M235i, 335i, 435i Charge Pipe & Boost Pipe V2 Kit seems to be a good kit at A$599 (no turbo inlet pipe though)

Preference (by mechanic who will do the job, I'll source parts)
- easy to install (as close as to OEM / stock parts, no cutting, drilling, etc.)
- easy to source in AU

Looking for recommendations on each pipe, or a combo kit (can be 2 or 3 items), thanks in advance.

Watch this long time ago and I didn't act on it...

After some research, I've decided to go with all 3 pipes: charge pipe & boost pipe + turbo inlet pipe (air intake pipe), all from FTP motorsport.

FTP Motorsport

sorry to hear you got the dreaded charge pipe failure. I haven’t heard of issues with the stock boost pipe or inlet pipe, why have you decided to change these too?

I went with the FTP charge and boost pipes. Turbo inlet I went Pure, but I think from memory MST is the favoured one now.

They are all plastic and will eventually break randomly, just spend some $ for piece of mind as I am going to keep the car for quite some time. Plus I am going to do BM3 stage 1 and probably custom tuning, don't feel comfortable with weak points like this on the car I drive hard.

NOTE: I'd rather spend $ on improving reliability than visual horsepower...

Will try to solve other common N55 issues as well (definitely need to do valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket before shit happens).

Thanks for the input.

I am tempted by MST (also from Taiwan, noice) air intake system, will probably do that later (a friend told me not to do intake as it doesn't have any benefit in terms of generating more power...)

FTP Motorsport specialises in BMW only, I watched some videos discussing about their way and philosophy of designing parts, well done those guys. Also MST Turbo Inlet pipe is slightly more expensive, I simply decided to go with the same brand for all 3.

No worries can't really go wrong with either. I think the MST just runs a larger diameter, and so will flow a bit better.

In terms of intake, it adds no power but adds some different intake noises. Be careful as a lot of intakes will throw a CEL. I got the CTS Turbo intake which does not throw a CEL.

Job (FTP Motorsport charge + boost and turbo inlet pipes - replaced all plastic pipes - excluding the air intake part) done at Advan Performance, the car feels more potent, the cold start roar actually stunned people around, so loud, definitely different from before, I reckon the charge pipe cracked long time ago causing minor leaks, till it finally cracked open at the connection.

Looking forward to flash BM3 stage 1 and take it from there. Will definitely come back to the workshop for more improvement.

A clip recorded after giving the car a snow form bath.

I went the CTS Turbo inlet pipe, a DO88 outlet pipe into a CSF intercooler and VRSF Chargepipe.

Amazingly, no dramas and all fitted up well.

My car required a touch up to the tune after the turbo inlet / outlet pipe as there was quaite a bit additional airflow into / out of the turbo.

They have the lot there if you dont wish to brand swap, but really theres a ton of brands to choose from.

Thanks for the input.

An OCC (Turner Motorsport one) is on my to-do list next.

For intercooler, I haven't decided which one to go as it may required some custom tuning due to the airflow change as you mentioned. I'll test bootmod3 for N55 OTS and see how it goes with 3 FTP pipes and take it from there.
