Yes. I tried many songs and the same ones for before/after. Fader setting to all front and all rear and left/right balance.
In that case I may take it off and try coding it off or may need to get an amp upgrade

Maybe do a before/after test to confirm that it’s an issue and not a quality control problem with my specific bypass harness? If it’s more wide spread, maybe Technic PNP will troubleshoot and come out with a v2.

Many of us have installed the bypass harness without detecting any difference such as that described. Mine is fine. Maybe installed something wrong?

Happy to hear what could go wrong with a plug and play harness that has locks on the connectors.

Beats me but there must be some reason you alone are finding this. Maybe you got a faulty harness.

If other 2018 cars don’t have this issue, then faulty harness is what I am thinking. I’ll try and get a hold of Technic PNP next week and see if they’ll send me a replacement.

The bad news is that the front speakers lose their sound fidelity and get very bass'y. So I removed the bypass harness and sound was good again. Anyone else have this issue on their 2018 M2?
There might be an issue with your install or your harness. I did my install a week ago and did not see any perceivable change in fidelity or range.

I asked earlier if he installed the harness backwards. You can do that and get funny results. Installed correctly there is no difference in stereo quality. But there is always a chance he got a bad connector.

Also no difference in stereo sound quality by coding out ASD via BimmerCode App (other than not having to turn it up louder to drown out the drone sound )

I don't know why more people don't go with the coding route; for less than a $50 investment, ASD can be coded on or off at will, not to mention the added benefit of being able to code tons of other options with the same app...

And the author of the app keeps it updated quite frequently so any updates performed by a dealership can still be modified or put back the way you had it before.

I didn’t think this was even possible given the slide lock. I used the same orientation on the connector that goes into the amp. But went with the orientation that worked on the other side of the Technic harness. Didn’t think the plug would install both ways, but I suppose I could have tried it both ways. I’ll get in touch with Technic and try this again at a later date. Thanks all!

Mainly because of the littany of posts here from people who have 'unintended consequences' from coding their ECU, or who have faced unfriendly dealers while under warranty trying to correct the problems that have resulted, or who have been unable to turn their ASD back on(although I have no idea why anyone would want to do that except perhaps to compare one more time, etc), and so on. Price wise, there isnt much difference between the coding solution and the harness.

Im not demeaning anyone who would rather code their ASD out; all Im trying to do is answer your statement above starting with , 'I dont know why.....'

To each his own.

It's a female to male cable and the connectors are keyed. Don't think you could install backwards.

Back in the day I think owners of 2016 M2s posted that they could tell the difference between the harness and coding--something about speaker hiss from the center speaker, I believe, when they used coding. But that difference, if it was one, went away with the 2017s...

I lost my ft speakers completely when I installed mine. Of course I installed it on the larger audio amp and not the smaller ASD amp. Once I corrected my FUBAR, all was good. Yes, it will fit on either amp as it's not keyed to one or the other.

You can't put it on backwards (male/female) but you can install it on the wrong amp. Ask me how I know

Fitted the harness today in my lunch break as I managed to get a second hand one off eBay. The difference is huge. Quite why BMW thought pumping so much sound into the cabin was necessary is beyond me. You don't realise how intrusive it is until its gone.

As others have said, this is how the car should come from the factory.

Damn it! You are right - I installed it on the big amp sitting on the floor and not the small one standing vertically behind. Oh well, I now have a project for another day. I get to procrastinate this now ... thanks for the call out!!

Thumbs up 3 dB reduction 25-35 MPH winding road in Berkeley hills

Installed today. Thanks to everyone who posted instructions and pictures. I recorded (iPhone video) the trip up and down South Park Dr in the Berkeley hills before and after and get a 3 dB reduction in cabin noise. Travel speed 25 - 35 MPH. The low pitch drone was gone and my head no longer aches after the drive.

Yes the M2 is a pleasure to drive with ASD removed.

Love that the drone is gone but I do miss the engine sound. The exhaust is pretty quiet with the windows up. Windows down sounds good but need more sound.
