I agree. I anticipated 75k plus options. If this car was 83k as it sits on the floor that would be one thing but I presume that CCB, gold wheels , cup tires, and other items may be extra. As the M2 has moved from OG to M2C... ( add S55 and M4 seats ) to M2 CS ...( add M4 leather, CF roof and adaptive suspension) the M2 has become more and more like the M4 with each iteration. It'd also added weight with each iteration... including the M2 CS which got so much heavier despite its lightweight parts being added that there is zero weight reduction unless one options CCB). Meanwhile the price has moved from an original 52k on up to 58k and now up another 25k. Most well equipped M4 I see on the lot run around 82k.... less than an M2 CS. To me ... without even leaving the marque, there are two many other competitors for this now, many available gently used. Used OG M2 - 40k Used 1M - 55k New M2C - 60k or less New M4C- 82-85k Used M4 GTS - available at 80k Used M3 CS - available at 80k Used M4 CS - available at 80k The performance of the M2 CS (as with the M3 CS and M4 CS) has not been enhanced commensurate with its massive price increase. At this point the M2 CS only has 6MT and a shorter wheelbase , otherwise it is basically an extension of the M4 CS which is set to end production in feb 2020. After an initial flurry of purchases, I agree that I think the M2 CS will end up fully optioned on lots at 90k, dealers will not allow euro delivery and production so far has not been limited to a set figure. Even if it is " limited " BMW will never hold the line at a figure (like Lays chips - they always make more ) and these won't be numbered editions. The M2 CS does have a 6 speed, which sets it apart from the M3 and M4 CS... but at this point with 18 months of production left on the M2 and if the CS is still produced until next December ... I'll happily sit back and wait to see how the market accepts this model as M4 CS sunsets and dealers begin clearing out M4. I anticipate leftover M4 CS on dealer lots as the 2er soldiers on and the next generation 3er and 4er come along. If one is buying DCT.. I really see very little reason to go with an M2 CS over an M4 CS that can be had at around the same price, and as such the M2 CS will continue to be used to sell more M4. Even if the M2 CS is a sellout , I think the worst case scenario is that I " miss out " on an M2 CS and end up with a euro delivery M2C somewhere close to ED invoice In spring of 2021. |

Also a chance that some other special additions come out. An M2C with adaptive suspension and Merino interior would be at a great price point. If I could get those two things in an M2C, then that's probably the direction I would go. CF roof and lightweight wheels would be nice, but not deal breakers.

I believe so, on average it's about 5% off.

Only if these cars don't come out of their regular allocations. If they're extra cars the dealers may be inclined to discount, based on availability.
If these cars are part of the regular allocation, then probably MSRP or more, depending on demand. So it's not that simple...

First, keep in mind the distinction between EURO-spec and US-spec + a bit of background. For homologation purposes, EURO-spec cars are inevitably required to observe European emissions regulations. Hence, alike the EURO-spec M2 Competition, the EURO-spec M2 CS features code 1DE "Exhaust Emission standards EUR6 RDE" (RDE = Real Driving Emissions): The US-spec M2 CS does not feature this 1DE code: As we all know, in the past BMW developed the M Performance Exhaust (MPE) for the N55 (with later a remote control change in operating the butterfly valve: a separate 'red pimple' button mounted inside the boot):
Subsequently, BMW developed an MPE for the M2 Competition:
The M2C MPE was presented in Spring 2018 and was scheduled to be made available from September 2018 onwards (source: here): "Racing sound on the road is provided by the M Performance exhaust system. The lightweight construction flap exhaust system made of stainless steel features a titanium rear silencer and 93 millimetre tailpipes made of carbon fibre with M logo. The sound ranges from sporty (Efficient Mode) to uncompromising racing acoustics (Sport Mode and Sport+ Mode) thereby emphasising the unique 6-cylinder bi-turbo sound even further. Of course this exhaust system (available from 9/2018) saves weight as well – approximately 32 percent (8 kg) as compared to the series production part." But already in June 2018 a BMW Aftersales document was issued confirming that the MPE was discontinued because of European and German emissions regulations. Both the EURO-spec M2 Competition and the EURO-spec M2 CS feature an Otto Particulate Filter (OPF), fitted inside the Mega Muffler (aka "The Cow Udder"). For the M2 CS, the exhaust got re-engineered for some more grunt (redesigned dual-branch exhaust system unique to M2 CS) (source: here): "Bringing the car’s design to a stunning conclusion is the redesigned dual-branch exhaust system with its quartet of stainless-steel tailpipes, M logo and M2 CS badge. [...]But, as said, also the EURO-spec M2 CS exhaust got to observe European emissions regulations. So, if BMW plans to release someday an MPE for the M2 CS (AFAIK nowhere confirmed as we speak), for sure it won't be released on the European market. Ad for M2C with M2C MPE - US version (no Otto Particulate Filter): M2C with M2C MPE (static display - Canada) - US version (no Otto Particulate Filter): M2 CS stock exhaust sound (static display - L.A.) - US version (no Otto Particulate Filter):

Why would the Comp MPE exhaust not work on the CS?

Good question, seems logical that given that both the M2C and M2CS have the same S55 engine except for the tune which bumps hp on the CS (basically same engine as M4 ZCP), that the M2C MPE should be compatible.
Interestingly the M4 MPE was compatible with both the M4 ZCP & M4CS. Though, checked with dealer parts departments which claim that the M2C MPE does not appear to be an item available for the M2CS. Could be still too early ..😉 |

New 911 Turbo S got revealed with a base price of around $205k, which is $13k over the previous Turbo S. Sure more horsepower and torque but more weight to offset the gains. Add another $20k for reasonable options and another $12k or so for taxes and you are looking at around $240k which is what some people pay for houses. Plus Porsche Turbos are known to experience massive depreciation.
Somehow $83.6k for a M2 CS with minimal options (no CCBS) doesn't seem that bad. At least it is smaller, more nimble, and weighs less than the 911 Turbo. Depreciation won't be as bad either due to less supply of CS. |
