Kind of disappointed that the CS didn't shed any weight but in the grand scheme of things, once an automobile crosses 3,500lbs or so, does a few pounds here and there really matter that much..

Let's get one on an open road or track and seen how it collectively performs and if it's anything like the M4 CS, it will be in good company.

At the end of day, that's all that really matters anyways, not some number on a data sheet.

"Developed on the ring" is absolutely laughable.

Developed in a board room at BMW to maximise profit.

All these posts from the autoshow and nobody noticed the imperfection in the roof weave!?!?! If this was my car from factory I'd be furious!

Hope the production models don't have this....

I wasn't looking - it's directly above the passenger door - I was pointing out the roof weave difference to someone and BAM it's blatantly obvious

I mean it's not that obvious. You are the only one to find it.

I have to say, the 1x1 weave looks pretty bad too. I do understand all BMW roofs are 1x1 and it's probably not that noticeable in real life because it's the roof, but it would be nice if it matched all the other parts.

I don't think you looked at the pic - the weave is all wonky in that one spot

They prob went for a "Checkered" flag concept. I prefer it match the rest also but It's not terrible in my opinion. I'm sure the production models will not have imperfections and they will go through quality control like any other car.

Furthermore, remember that in Europe the 2NH "M Sport Brake" are optional. Standard brakes on base M2 and M2C = ± 16 kg / ± 35 lbs less weight:

M2 Competition 2NH brakes feature the F8x carbon ceramic brake’s calipers (F&R) with 400mm/380mm steel rotors. And the F10 M5 standard brake’s front calipers are the same as F8x CCB front calipers.

Standard M2/M2C brakes (blue) (source: see here):
  • blue front caliper - 4.890 kg or 10.78 lbs
  • blue rear Caliper - 3.600 kg or 7.94 lbs
  • 380x30mm front rotor - 11.300 kg or 24.91 lbs
  • 370x24mm rear rotor - 9.300 kg or 20.50 lbs
    = 58.180 kg or 128.26 lbs
2NH M Sport Brakes (silver) - M Performance Parts Brakes (red):
  • silver/red front caliper - 7.540 kg or 16.62 lbs
  • silver/red rear Caliper - 4.310 kg or 9.50 lbs
  • 400x36mm front rotor - 13.870 kg or 30.58
  • 380x30mm rear rotor - 11.300 kg or 24.91
    = 74.040 kg or 163.23 lbs
Extra weight of the optimized silver/red brakes compared to the standard blue M2/M2C brakes = 15.86 kg or 34.97 lbs
In a recent BMWBlog podcast, BMW M CEO Markus Flasch said: "Bottom-line, the car is pretty much the same weight [...] The reason for the car being the same weight [as] the [M2] Competition is the additional stuff that we've put in." (listen here - it's told in the first part of the podcast + see here).
What are these additional things that make up the weight saved for the light weight parts of the car?

No, I definitely saw it, I was just commenting that the weave doesn't match the other parts on the car even when it's not defective.

The only known parts are the adaptive dampers. I can't see how it weighs the same unless the measurement changed in terms of standard equipment. He may just be generalizing, because +/-100 lbs sprung weight is not a lot.

Not sure about the new seats, but certainly the HK stereo being standard now is also adding to the weight, as well as possibly some other comfort features.

A particular weave is used for strength/structural righty optimization, not aesthetics.

Generally, a 2x2 weave is used in part build up (middle layers). A 2x2 weave has slightly higher resin consumption which equals more weight.

I find the CS models interesting.

I view the E46 M3 CSL as the car that these CS cars are based on. That car had no AC standard which would be intolerable to most M3 drivers.

Not sure why BMW doesn't go all out and make a CF monocoque and then up the price. That car would be special, cool, and legitimately lighter.

Shaving off a couple of lbs here and there on a street car is a mostly pointless exercise that just makes some numbers sound better.

I was reading up on this article from BMW blog which I found interesting. They Weighed the car at 1,532 KG which translates to 3,377 lbs this includes CCB. Here is the link.

I saw that car at the LA Auto show. Beautiful car and great seating position. I hope they ironed out the bounces though from the suspension with this new CS

" What we do know is that it featured the six-speed manual transmission and the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. And the recorded times are quite interesting. Let’s start with the BMW M2 CS time as published by Auto Bild – 1:34.98 – which is just a bit over half a second faster than the M2 Competition on the same track.

25K for 0.7 seconds...

I found three tests... I did not find the test indicating the M2 C was just 0.7 back.... perhaps another comparo or a super test?
