Used M2's...The Ultimate Bargain
It's like buying Apple stock at $100!!
Low to Mid 40's?? Please clue me in on a car you would rather buy for that money than an OG M2. I'm honestly hoping they recover after this initial M2c sell off. |

is it just me or am I not seeing the same market in Canada. Used M2's in toronto at least are holding their value. The cheapest used one I can see is $52k and its a 2016 with about 60,000km (37000 miles)on it.

Doesn't seem to be the case in Vancouver. Very low used car stock and prices are still up 55-60k. Either way, you'd be crazy to think that a car that isn't limited production will go up in value when it's 3yrs old. Other than short term spikes when a model is newly released, I don't think there's a modern car that has ever achieved this.

Yep, I know the production numbers are against me. I had a Porsche 911 Clubsport (1 of 22 sequentially VIN'd 88's and currently own 1/2 of a 1992 US Carrera Cup, 1 of 44 plus a Red "Pace Car") I can dream though. |

I really don't care how much it depreciates as I will be keeping the car for very long time. |

Not everyone wants a base model M2...
The M2C has actually given added value to the OG M2's

When they hit $20-25k (they definitely will...) I might buy one or an F80 M3 (heading in the same direction with lower production numbers than the M2 even) as a 2nd car I can street park and run errands in...
I'm not surprised by this depreciation. They made SO many M2s this was bound to happen. People originally thought the M2 was going to be low production but they were not even close by the end of production. The M2C is going to be produced for 2-3 years so this will continue for a while. I personally think the M2 is a more appealing package than the M2C; but unfortunately the mass public tend to buy whatever the "latest and greatest" is hence the downturn in used M2 prices and trade-ins pouring in.

Interesting, just did a quick search on Cars.com of the Southwest US, and lowest there was $47K for a 2016. But that was a rare exception. Most were solidly in the 50's

Edit: when I say "flatten out" I mean the depreciation slope will become shallower, not that it will actually be flat. It is not a collectible that will hold at some value in the long term. |

It was at MSRP, but I declined. I have too much invested in the 2018 that can't be transferred over to the M2C (PPF alone is $3k)so it didn't make sense financially for me. I'm happy with the OG as it suits what I use it for, and I have everything I want from the M2C in my OG anyway...except for maybe the tunability of the S55, but I can make do with a tuned N55, I personally prefer the sound anyway.

I think too many people pay attention to Ferrari and GT Porsche values and expect the M2 because its a great car to follow a similar trend. That isn't realistic. The M2 is a regular production car anyone can order and it is a niche car. In the grand scheme of things there are not a lot of people who are going to buy a 50K plus 2 door sports coupe these days. Take a look at the sales trends and you will see the bottom has fallen out of passenger car sales and all of the growth is in crossover, SUV and light truck sales. Nobody should ever buy a new car with expectations that it is not going to depreciate. Can you occasionally get lucky like the Toyota FJ owners? Sure but those are the rare exceptions. When I buy a car I go in assuming it will have no value when I am done with it in 4-5 years, of course that is not the case but I drive my cars and get every bit of enjoyment out of them while taking excellent care of them. At the end of my life with them whatever value is left is a bonus.
Just drive them and enjoy them. If your in the market buy one of the many barely used M2s from guys who didn't drive them out of fear of depreciation, he saved it for you to enjoy. |

There's only 3 below 45K within 150 miles of me (Southern NJ). Two are private seller and one is a dealer. Two manual, one DCT.

I'm not saying this car is the E30 but there are some similarities regarding the OG N55. Especially considering it seems like less than 6000 made it to North America? I hate to say it but you won't be able to buy cars like this for much longer. |
