I love my M2 and have zero plans on getting an M2C. I don’t plan to track it. At low RPM, the M2 out performs the M2C.The M2C doesn’t provide any upgrade in daily driving.

and here is a little secret - the seats in the OG M2 are better. Trust me, I know. and it still cracks me up that people are mad at BMW for doing this. While they had to do it for emissions purposes, the fact is, they are in the business to sell cars and you sell more cars by making changing and upgrades -something they have done over the years.

on the other hand I wanted the S55 engine in the M2, but they didn't make that car, and the consensus at the time was that BMW wouldn't ever do that in an M2 unless it was an expensive limited edition because it would make the M4 look bad. Since I wasn't getting a CSL or whatever I was fine with the M2 as it was because there was not going to be any better options for me. Then European emission laws forced BMW's hand to give future M2 buyers a once in a life time gift. The S55 engine in the M2 for not much more than the previous year's car, meanwhile trashing the value of the N55 cars. I know many here don't like the S55 but I want a higher revving engine that pulls all the way to the top. Had I known the M2C was coming, I would have waited, but people said they wouldn't put the S55 in the M2 because they don't want to embarrass the M4. I'm over it though. Now I am just waiting to see if I want one or not, and if I do, do I wait for the last model year? Do I wait until the G series car comes out and gets a used M2C so I don't totally get fucked on the cost to upgrade (CA taxes). Last edited by akkando; 09-05-2018 at 10:00 PM.. |

I bought my 2018 LCI M2 last weekend specifically because of the connection I had with the car, the sound, the handling, the looks...I drove a few new M3's before I pulled the trigger on my M2, I felt the N55 was perfectly matched with the chassis. Didn't care for the power delivery in the M3's. I absolutely adore this car and can't wait to drive it at every possible opportunity. No saltiness here whatsoever!

Slow? Not a good value? Salty? First two complaints are laughable, and for the last one - the subject of the thread - really should have known better. Everyone who visits this site knew the S55 lump was coming to the M2, some of us just didn't care but are happy for those who wanted it.

Not one bit for me. I bought, from what I was told, one of the last MY18's produced (had to get special permission from BMW to get ED on it so late). I knew the M2C was coming, but for me the normal is more than enough. One of the reasons I was turned off by the M2C was the S55. I was originally in the market for an F80 M3, but I didn't enjoy the sound at all.

I mean, who would have figured that BMW would improve the M2 at a future release??? Where the hell do they get the nerve??? I'm SURE that there won't be any improvements to the M2C in the future, like when the G80 engine is released for the M3. You should definitely sell your M2 and get the M2C.... the model that BMW won't ever improve upon!!! The M2, for me, was never about 0-60. I could always have gotten a Corvette, for the same money, and it would blow the doors off of an M2. The M2 was aggressive looking but not flashy, but what sold me was the driving experience. The handling, the engine noises, the power curve that delivered power at 1500 rpms as well as at 7000 rpm..... still brings a grin to my face every time I get in it and start it up. The car is just so well balanced! Last edited by ShelJW; 09-06-2018 at 12:53 AM.. |

I was like that then i moved on but it took me like 3 or 4 months. I think It's a normal feeling and you can and should express it.
Now that i really know my M2 ( thats important ), there are only few times when i think i could have used 50 more HP but overall I WILL NEVER USE THAT POWER... Seats are debatable, exhaust too... Talk to us anytime bro ! |

OP - you don't know how lucky you are to own a BMW M2. Other people are absolutely lusting over our cars and you're bummed?
Come on. Be thankful for what you have. If you're always chasing the next best thing - house, car etc etc, you will never be happy. Be thankful - quit chasing - go and detail your beautiful car and save your $. Btw - have you looked at the M2C wheels? Just a thought. Out. |

So you bought a car and now your "salty" because a slightly different/better (subjective) version came out? You must have a good life to be upset about such a trivial matter. Fact is your M2 is not slower, or worse because the M2C came out. Not sure why you bought an M2 if you hate the interior and think its slow.
Hope you make it through this tragedy. |

-Two turbos..... naaah not for me, the M2 is a perfectly balanced little car in every aspect? For connoisseurs ladies and gents
-It took me time to accept the twinscroll in the N55, i am not sure i can bear with the two grinders in the S55; don’t get me wrong, the s55 is a great engine just not for me. Last edited by Glounk; 09-06-2018 at 05:06 AM.. |

Not really. I enjoy the M2 as is. For the money it was good value given the package. And its plenty capable, i think you are unable to push your car to its capabilities on the street vs a golf r or an sti where its high reving and it FEELS like you are going really really fast

Nope, made a conscious decision to get the M2 in June based on budget and what I needed the car for etc. Got a decent deal on an '18 plate car with the spec I wanted (plus a bit more) and took delivery in less than a week.
Obviously my interest in the M2C is quite high, but I'm not suffering any buyers remorse. I'll see where I'm at in 3 years and decide what I want to do next. Maybe a late M2C for a good price if I the latest and greatest isn't what I want in a car anymore. |

For myself, no regrets... I love my 2017 OG M2. As others have said, it is the same or perhaps quicker in the city, is wonderfully balanced for the winding country roads here, and I do not track or stunt so the difference does not come up for me. Love the sound. Interior is fine. Not sure the M2C is much better, as those seats look cut and pasted in. They do not seem to match the rest of the interior. Maybe it looks better in person. Sure it is not as good as an M4 interior... that is why it costs less. As for losing money; yes, sell now and you will take a bath. But in a year or two depreciation will have levelled out and probably be holding pretty good since they do not make the OG M2 anymore, likely less of them than M2C on the road by that point, and it is a sweet car. I think you need to either take the hit (and move on) or come to realize what a sweet car you have. No point being unhappy for 3 years or whatever your financing term was. |

I got my m2 in march when the s55 was very much confirmed. I test drove the m3 pure as well as the m2 (at the time it was a 10k difference which is nothing here in australia where youre spending 100k for one), the n55 delivery felt far smoother to me (albiet slower, but slow is definitely a stretch isnt it?) maybe its just how i drive
I am not too happy about the mirrors and the redesigned bumper, which were leaked after the fact. It just perceives the og to be more dated than it actually is and im a gen y- i want the latest and greatest!

Many think the M2 should of been the Comp all along when it came out. I bought my MY18 M2 almost a year ago knowing the Comp was coming. I thought it was going to be more than a $5k increase over the current M2. Knowing what we know now, if you would ask me which of the two I would get if I were to buy today I'd probably go for the Comp. I just feel like it isn't much more for what you're getting.
With that said, where I stand now, $15-$20k just to trade up from MY18 to a competition wouldn't make financial sense for me. The door is still open for a M2C, just not right now. Going to enjoy my current M2, I still love and enjoy driving it, N55 and all. I've just been adding little mods here and there to get it setup how I want it. And lastly, just because the M2C is out now, it didn't suddenly turn the OG M2 to some inferior predecessor. Like others said, enjoy your car!

I share the opinion of many folks here. I bought the ‘18 LCI knowing fully well that the M2C will likely get the S55 motor. I have experienced that motor as an instructor in the right seat of a few M3s and M4s at a couple of different tracks. It’s a beast of a motor. But it also relatively easily overwhelmed the rear end and required more throttle disciple to keep things in line, compared to the NA M cars I am used to (e92 M3, e46 M3). While the S55 powered M4/M3 is a thrill, it also makes for a less fun car as you, the driver, is not driving it close to its limits most of the time. The M2 seemed like the right balance of power for the chassis where the chassis is the star, if you will. I will track the M2 down the line and my goal is to become faster more through mechanical and aero grip, than sheer power.
Once I test drove the M2, it sealed the deal for me. The car has all the qualities of a M car (well, the steering could use a bit more feel) and the sweet sound of the inline-6 when revving it out. The size and weight makes it feel like a e46 M3. That being said, I am happy the M2C exists with a 6MT. The M2 is not my last car and it’s nice to know there are cars still being made that I would like to own in the future. And given the move to heavier cars with DCTs and automatics, this is a good thing. Enjoy your car until you are ready for the next one. |

If I could do it all over again, I would have waited for the M2C. I jumped on an OG this past January because it was too good of a deal to pass up (relative to the pricing at the time) and I figured the C would be out of my range when released. Hindsight.
With the new PS2+ turbos out for the S55 making 800hp, I fantasize of having an M2C, swapping the front bumper and wheels to the OG and having a wolf in sheeps clothing that would dust 99% of cars on the road. As is, I just got into tracking my OG (first HPDE this past weekend) and am FBO trying to decide between a PS1 or PS2 upgrade based upon the power delivery.
