TBH, the WRX did peak last century. Car Magazine even voted it car of the decade (90s).

I still have my 18 3/4 year old that I bought new. No point in selling it as it would be worth next to nothing. Unlike modern Subarus it is bullet proof reliable. It's also a joy to drive. So involving and raw.

The M2 feels like an interplanetary spaceship in comparison.

more questions

Can you guys please indulge me in two more noob questions?

1) where the hell can I find engine temp and oil pressure??? I gave up after messing with idrive for about 20 minutes. I was however able to turn off 90% of the useless crap like suggested gear and MPG.

2) is it just me or are the standard pedals of insultingly cheap quality? I just found the OEM M performance steel pedal set online for $125. Is that the way to go? How do they mount/install?

thanks again!

On the left turn signal there are two buttons on the side. Toggling them should get you to an oil temp number. When you toggle to oil temp it may take a moment to display the temp and just show oil icon for a moment, not sure I don't have an LCI but it takes a moment on pre LCI. No oil pressure though, but you can get those readings through the OBD port on a phone or an add on gauge. The iDrive can be setup to what info you want these buttons to toggle, like MPG or whatever so make sure you don't accidentally remove the oil temp from the display.

I paid $25 for some slip on pedals, though I am sure the $125 drilled are better. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M7YSLQY

Congrats on the purchase. I have never owned a STI but I have owned my Forester XT for about 14 years now. The STI and M2 are probably somewhat comparable, but the FXT and the M2 are worlds apart. I agree with the points you make in post #1 regarding the M2, OP.

Congrats on your purchase. I went from an Evo X/M235i to Focus RS/M2. I'm really enjoying the M2. One interesting thing you said, that I've read a few others say is, you got the sunroof delete.

There is no delete because the M2 doesn't come standard with a sunroof in the ordering system, it's something you have to choose. To each his own, but I've never understood the need to declare that you don't have a sunroof. If you had bought a M235i that would make more sense IMO

Yes, just a figure of speech. It was very difficult for me to find a remaining '18 without the sunroof option and 6MT. Not only did I not want to pay for it, I really did not want it, period. Not because i'm a weekend track star who doesn't want 30 extra pounds on the top of the car, just because I will never use it and it's one less thing to break.

i wish I could have found an '18 without the executive package too.....but alas, No. I waited too long. I now have $1550 of nanny aids and a heated steering wheel...none of which I want or need.

i'm still absolutely thrilled with this particular car. Not one ounce of regret or second thought.

I took my Pop for ride today.... he owned a '70 2002 when I was first born for a few years.... I have just the vaguest memory of it. He was absolutely blown away speechless by the M2.

Yeah, M2 can do that to people
I went from nicely upgraded e46 (non-M but supercharged with about the same power as the M2). On PSS10 coilovers I thought it handled well.
Then I drove the M2 through some turns ...

OMG.

You know how new car reviews always mention how the chassis got stiffer compared to the previous generation? I always thought to myself - who cares? It's not like you gonna feel it.

Well, I felt it. Amazing how little the body flexes on the M2.

It made me realize how dated the e46 was.

Congrats and welcome. Oh and if this is your only car, you'll love that heated wheel come January.

You will come around to realize how fortunate you were to end up with it in the end. It's an absolute bargain for the adaptive LED headlights alone which are worth over $4k on their own to retrofit.

So I disabled it on both my cars.
I just start driving and it disappears in a few seconds.

Congrats OP! I have another 'rare' non-exec pack and I prefer it. I specifically didn't want the nannies. The hex headlights would have been cool but the 18 already has standard LED headlights so aren't really missing much.

Congrats, I have a 15 STI which I track and the M2 is my daily. However, I can see the M2 becoming a track car in the next few years. It is an awesome car. Completely different to the STI. Both are fun cars.

BTW, Doesn't anyone know if the overhead cabin light can be made to always stay off when I open my doors?

In addition to the BMS clutch stop, pick up a UCP clutch pedal...reduces the high take up and play from the plastic pedal. Just as dramatic as the clutch stop IMHO

All CAI's are a waste of $ from a performance perspective - some look pretty but, the original from BMW is very good- don't believe the hype on CAI's.

Plus, depending on which one you throw your $ at, it may also throw a CEL.

Looks great in the engine bay and claims to add some ponies. Came with the P2 package as well.
