New Member - LBB 2018 LCI DCT

Hey all,

New member here, first time BMW owner. My previous car was a 2015 Audi RS5 which I owned for about 4 months. After driving the M2, I realized the M2 was a better car for me. Here in Phoenix, the drives I like to do are slower, tighter roads which I find the M2 excels at. It is such an easy car to drive fast, has great feedback, is fun to drive in town, and it makes me smile. I can't stop looking at the car.

My wife and I just got back from a 1000 mile trip around Arizona. We took 89A into Prescott, up to Jerome, over to Greer, then we hit route 191, AKA Route 666, AKA the Devil's Highway. Route 191 is a 100 miles of turns, it is considered one of the twistiest roads in America.

Its a 2018 LCI DCT. I wish it were a manual, but the DCT is really, really good in this car. Coming from motorcycles, this is the closest thing I can find to a motorcycle. I plan to keep this car for quite a while, its stunning from all angles.

The only other car I see that can complete with this car is the Cayman. I love the size of the M2, I find M3s and M4s too big, it;s tragic that cars just keep getting bigger.

I know the M2C is here, but I don't feel like I'm missing much. If the M2C sounds like the M3 I heard the other day, I'm glad I passed. I do like it's power numbers though. I'm not much of a tuner as I've never owned a car that can be tuned.

Anyway, this forum has been a great source of info, I appreciate the input

Welcome. I'm pretty much a newbie too (forum-wise), and looking forward to picking up our new M2C in 3 days, 6 hours, and 21 minutes -- in Munich.

Thanks for the pics; I'd forgotten how much prettier that part of AZ is vs. Phoenix.

Congrats on the car, happy to see it getting driven, so many guys don't drive them. Have 33,000 miles and 9 track days on mine over 22 months and love every minute.

Welcome, neighbor! We've been planning to do that same drive, or at the very least just run the Devil's Highway. Is it really 100 miles? Now I have to get out there. BTW, I dig that yellow Z4 in your photos.

Thanks.

From Eager where you catch 191 to Morenci where most of the fun ends is 114 miles. There is hardly a straight segment of road, the longest stretch might be a mile, but that seems like a stretch. The locals will tell you there are 1100 turns, and I believe it. I am planning on heading up for another run next weekend. I will likely stay in Greer, head down to Morenci, then turn around and come back up so I can get a double run. I suspect the roads will be covered in snow in the next few months. The weather up there is perfect right now. Everything is so green and lush that it feels more like Colorado than Arizona. by far, the best drive I have ever done. Even though it takes about 2 hours, it feels like 10 minutes. Many of the turns are really tight, making the nice short wheelbase of the M2 the perfect car.

I went up with my buddy who recently bought a Kia Stinger. He led on 191 for a while and I really enjoyed his pace. Quick, but comfortable. The we changed positions after one of our numerous viewing sessions and within 2 minutes I never saw him. I was running a very comfortable pace (my wife was with me and I didn't want her to be too uncomfortable). I was actually contemplating turning around as I thought he might have crashed. The M2 is just so quick, it really does feel like a motorcycle. I now understand all of the reviews when it is stated the M2 likes to "dance".

I would recommend not being too aggressive when driving 191. It would be a crime to speed through to quickly and not enjoy the views and environment. They also have the road posted stating that it is not patrolled. If something were to go wrong, you could be in trouble, there is no service out there.

I just mapped it and see what you mean. It's not something that can be done in a day, you have to stay overnight. Looks like just getting there takes 4 hours. And that region does get snow? I hadn't thought about that, figured I could just get over there whenever. I'm glad you posted, we'll plan for it more deliberately now. And we just got the Bimmerzone spare tire set for just these road trip occasions too.

Welcome! Always good to see another AZ M2.
You hit just about all the best roads in AZ on that trip. Agree Devils Highway is a zen experience, both driving and scenery wise. You probably know them but other great roads are AZ 88 up to Tortilla Flats (although they are repaving that right now and extending the pavement to Roosevelt lake, can't wait till that's done). And a good winter trip is South from Superior on 177 and 77 to Oro Valley. Gets slow when you get down to Tucson, but can make an extended trip and go down past Tucson to the wine country around Sonoita.
Enjoy!

no front license plate?

if you need to put on a front license plate, I just got the Carbonio front mount and love it. installed in 3 minutes. easy on/off. a little pricey but it's very stury. good quality.

Arizona is not a dual-plate state. Only rear plates required, fortunately.

That you sir! I have done all of those drives. I have been told the drive to Parker Lake south from Sonoita is amazing. I really like the Canyon Lake drive. The paving is complete to Tortilla Flats. I was not aware that they are paving beyond that. I really like the segment after Tortilla flats as it opens up a bit.

I'm actually heading up to drive 191 again in the next few weeks. It's just so good, I can't get it out of my head

Welcome, hope you enjoy your new M2 for years to come. I'm familiar with the route out outlined, that had to be a great road trip.
