Bilstein B16 vs Ohlins R&T? Feedback?
I was leaning towards Ohlins R&T coilovers but wanted to see if anyone here has any feedback or even a set installed on Bilstein B16 coilovers. Couldn't really find much info on them here.

I had the Ohlins R&T installed 3 weeks back and love them so far...I had the spring rates lowered 15% to 80N/mm front and 160N/mm rear (vs 90 and 190 respectively) as I am mainly a street and back road guy.
So far no noise, as quiet as stock and amazing....easy to adjust from 5 clicks (track) 10 clicks (back road/canyon) and 15 clicks (street)...takes 2 minutes. So I would give them a 5 star rating so far!!!!

I've had the Bilstein B16 PSS10 coilovers installed on my 2017 M2 for about 5,000 miles now. I drive the car on street and track (about ten days this year) and my suspension setup includes the Bilsteins, GC camber plates (running at 2.7 deg) and SC2 tires.
Overall - A good, quality option at a price point materially lower than the Ohlins R&T. Ride - A little stiffer than the stock setup over uneven pavement but I've been living with it without too much complaining from the girlfriend - and I live in Manhattan. Generally, l keep them at the softest settings for the street and crank them up a bit for track days. Over wavy pavement, there is much better control than the stock setup - with the stock suspension the tires tended to bounce out of control in some situations. The Bilsteins remind of the very controlled ride in some of the Porsches I have driven. Quietness - So far both the B16s and camber plates have not made a sound. Thankfully, the "swoosh" sound from the stock shocks when going over speed bumps is also gone. Adjustability - Single adjustment knob for compression/rebound ratio makes life easier for someone like me who is new to coilover setup. They are located at the bottom of the shocks so a jack is necessary to reach them, but otherwise easy to adjust. Nice solid and clear clicks for each setting. |

I have B16’s/pss10’s on the way for mine. Ran V3’s on my last car so it will be nice to compare the 2 brands. Adjustment will definitely be easier on the bilsteins. Most likely pair them up with Millway camber plates at some point too.

The longer answer is that I love the Ohlins and believe they are a superior suspension for the M2...but....even with my softer springs (than the standard Ohlins M2 offering ) of 80N/mm front and 160N/mm rear and at 20 clicks (the softest setting) my suspension is slightly stiffer than stock. Actually I think it is about the same as stock when new, but when I compared my new set up with a friends M2 with 8,500 miles on it, his seemed a little more compliant and softer riding than mine. That said, mine are of course new and my car still only has 3,000 on it. The reason I am still loving the Ohlins is they have such a fricking 'stuck to the road' feeling...no more bounce, they just seem to absorb road bumps, particularly the medium and larger road irregularities which can really upset the chassis in a turn. So I love my Ohlins but if you want a system that is softer I would go with the Dinan or I would order the Ohlins with 70N/mm front and 140-150N/mm rear which Jake at Ohlins said the valving can handle....he said you can go up to a 25% lower spring rate (from standard) before you start to defeat the valving. Either way, this car rocks....hitting the track for the first time in 2 weeks...hmmm, back to 5 clicks settings is my plan for track duty....

It takes 5 minutes; I put a towel on the garage floor (or if I am out driving I bring a towel) and lay on my back, takes 20 seconds to locate the lil knobs and click away...fronts click easily, the backs take a little more finger strength...but it takes all of 5 minutes and you can go from 3-5 clicks which is exceptionally stiff (and therefore even flatter in turns and quicker responsiveness)....to 20 clicks, ready for the road....If I was going out for a morning of backroads I would swap it to 12 clicks, which is a nice compromise.

hmmm that's very interesting about the stiffness compared to stock. Do you think that the 70/150 combo would make it perfect? Why haven't you changed the spring yourself to 70/150 ? how much lower than standard is your car? So your saying it rides as good as standard roughly lowered? She is a bit of Kanga to buy this kit so yeah just wanting to make sure i'll be happy with it. Think i'm a 70/150 guy though. Last edited by JL1; 03-20-2018 at 03:58 AM.. |

On ride height, ..it put me approx 1 cm lower than stock. So what exactly does..." She is a bit of Kanga really mean????"?????
