You're seriously getting 300 miles / tank?

I am just dreaming of my M2 which is coming in March(?) so I haven't done it yet. However, a 13.7-gallon tank would only need 22 mpg to exceed 300 miles. I did better than that in my 2009 DCT M3 most days.

Still under 1000 miles on my M2, but I get under 20 mpg in the city. I can get about 25 mpg on the highway. Mileage definitely isn't the draw for this car. My E36 M3 does closer to 30 mpg highway.

Our Cooper S has a 40 liter tank, but it sips fuel and has a better range between fillups by far.

And unless you're driving in East Nowhere, Wyoming, why does it matter? Is stopping for gas really burdensome?

It's relatively accurate. I drove it down to 0 for giggles when I first got the car and filled up 13.2 gallons.

I get about 21.4 mpg on average so I am getting just under 300 miles on a tank. Don't let it get under a 1/4 tank.

Agree. But if you refill at a quarter of a tank, you're refilling every 210 miles. Lots of trips to Shell!!

Yes stopping for gas if you commute and have a long trip each day gets very old. Like others have said I don't really care that much about mpg but I hate stopping for gas. I literally check the fuel tank size of cars before I buy them. Ideally a range of 300 is a bare minimum

You know what really makes that statement a joke (realizing you were a bit sarcastic) - you can get a GT3 with an extended range fuel tank - 25 gallons! - FOR NOTHING EXTRA!
If so, that has got to be the sole exception to Porsche's habit of charging for every possible thing it can think of beyond a basic car. They make BMW look like pikers in comparison.

It is true. You gotta pay the $150k to get the gt3 though. The front axle lift should be free too, but that costs you $3k!

It's possible! So far, my best highway tank was 31.23 mpg. That was post-break in (~2500 miles) with Shell 93, level grade (also near sea level), ambient temp around 60F (no A/C), and cruise set at 60.

A typical highway tank for me is more like 22.

A bit of a thread revival here but has anyone considered if the f30/f80x fuel tank (15.7 ga) would fit the f22/f87 chassis (13.7ga)?

It is about a 2 gallon difference but that could be up to an extra 50 miles for some folks.

They seem very similar in shape and mounting points (1st pic is f22/87 and 2nd is f30/80)

I know it's early but I think you are in the running for understatement of the year with that one!

However, I don't believe I'd seen this idea before. FCP EURO has the F30 gas tank listed for $204 with free shipping but IMO, 2 extra gallons (~15%) would be worth that.

It can't be that easy, there must have been some reason they changed the tank in the first place.

It was only a hunch considering how many f80 parts are used on the f87. I might for the sake of it try it out one day once I am overhauling my diff.

I kind of doubt it will fit or why even have a separate fuel tank for F22 vs F30.

It's a good guess, but knowing BMW, they wouldn't pay to change it if it didn't have to be changed (unless it would scalp M3/M4 sales, and this wouldn't).

Yeah, even if it fit, I would be a little afraid that there is a hidden reason like getting too close to hot components, etc. Since all the F22s are like that, have to assume there is a reason.

The racing series m235r and csr have even larger 20 gallon ones just for reference. Although they are extremely cost prohibitive at $1k
