When I'm in a crawl depending on the pace I just pull from second to avoid the sensation you mention. Creeping in first will always be touchy when it comes to avoiding engine braking with such a high gear ratio . The car does allow you to switch to 2nd then crawl and I find myself doing this more and more

Well said....it is an automatic clutch with the beauty of having the engine directly connected to the wheels when in gear just like a MT. The DCT clutch is a wonderful alternative to the traditional torque converter which generally makes me nuts. I learned to love the distinction in my 09 M3 but never was able to convince my wife it wasn't a defect.
