Some are asking about the exhaust note, and I can report that IMO the M2 sounds terrific and trumps the M3&4 for sound.
To put it simply. They sound crap!

Not really. Just a subjective impression thing - going between M4 and M2. I have not driven a 2 series and, frankly, the answer would not have changed my mind about getting the car. Was just curious about the subjective feel of the comparison. I am super excited. Probably going to head to my dealer - they have a couple M235s in their lot. May go see what's up.
It's still a BMW, luxo- barge M4 guy.... ;-).

Yes. An M235 test drive will tell you a lot about whether or not you want to make the " step up" to more fun

Hehe... actually, my wife drives the M4 mostly (although I do enjoy it). I still drive my E92 because I love it. I want to move THAT engine into the M2...

I don't race... I drive. For me, there is more than pure speed. I love the feel of the NA response. To each their own. If I wanted pure speed only, maybe I'd go for an Ariel Atom of a Z07? Meh... about more than speed for me.

I guess I just like the way turbo cars feel and the surge because I owned 2 e9x and I still have nightmares about the lack of torque. Supercharged is a different story.

Have thought about SC for it. Maybe in my fictional movement of the engine to the M2, I will also supercharge it then! However, the amount of time I have to accelerate from idle in a "spirited driving" situation is not that much. Running it in high revs and working the shifts through twisties and stuff... mmmm... love that engine up there in the 5-8K rpm range. If I am stop sign drag racing or living life a quarter of a mile at a time, then I'll go for the big turbos though.

Sound isn't enough for me to choose a car otherwise I'de be driving something American because the Mustangs sound better than E92s..

I know a lot of people miss their E92s. I'm just not one of them. To each their own right.

Exactly, I loved the engine but irl in that big fat '08 E90 M3 6MT it wasn't very lively below let's say 4k rpm(subjectively)

E9x m3 was a bit too fat for that engine imho, needed to lose 100/150kgs.

Cheers

Makes me wonder if the the MPE is even worth bothering with for around £2500 (UK)!

I own an M135i, and I own an M5. The interior of the M2 was marginally better than the M135i. But the M135i is very low rent with the hard plastics and leather that is pretty basic. The interior of the M3/4 is much better from any objective standpoint. The quality of the leather and plastics and general ambiance is much improved. But that would make sense wouldn't it ?

Have anyone seen the 6MT M performance knob for M2 in person? Just wondering if the CF bit on the knob would match with the rest of the CF in M2 interior. The one in this picture look a bit off to me.

Pic from uae247. He posted quite a few

http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...&postcount=230

The CF bits in the M2 are a sort of "raw" version, without a glossy finish.
Looks like the CF on the knob is coated and glossy.
Might not be the best match...

tbh, i'm quite concerned with this new info re the CF in the car. seems like a dirt trap to me

I wonder if we can use some sort of sealant that would look good? Any ideas?

Exactly! What is this stuff going to look like after 2 years of daily use?

I share your concern. Dirt trapped in the texture of the weave will be a given. Imagine spilling a beverage onto it. I don't know what will be the best method of cleaning this material.

One of the first things I researched after M2 interior photos started to appear was whether BMW was going to offer a clear coat option, which to me looks better anyway.
