Good to know!

I just submitted my order for a 2017 September build last week.

I did not select Executive Package as well but I want CarPlay.

I have not got confirmation yet, I am waiting for my European Delivery Dates to be confirmed.

CarPlay is definitely a separate option from the exec pkg here in the US. It costs $300.

Now: That's because CarPlay is an option, not standard -- and I believe the option is triggered by the Executive Package selection, just like Advanced Bluetooth with Smartphone Integration is triggered by the Technology Package selection in 2 Series cars -- and that option is possible starting with August builds, which that car will be.

End of issue (and congrats: that car will get iDrive 5.0).
Interesting tone and you are wrong about Executive Package and Carplay being linked at all. Separate options. I won't criticize your lack of accurate information, I have manners.

Kind of useless stuff to me TBH. If it was standard fine but for the price no thanks.

Would be a bummer if the $300 is a service fee for something I could do myself...

Exactly! And it is not a >50k car, it is an >80k car over here... Which makes having to pay for it even more cumbersome.
Plus, the fact that we can afford it should not mean we are happy to pay for every sort of "nice to haves". But that's just me.

Haven't done the math but I'm happy to pay for the new options, e.g. wireless charging vs. the older alternative of a charging dock (~$300+) + snap-in adapter (~$150) the latter of which you had to repurchase each time you bought a new phone.

Regarding Apple CarPlay (and Android auto) I'm sure BMW would prefer everyone hated these solutions and instead would adopt their BMW Connected Drive platform, apps and WiFi hotspot. Not sure if BMW Connected Drive is a fail but it sure appears to be one to me. Why b/c try researching if this is a feature you want in your "new" car and how it "really" works and what you get. For example, in one place I had read that you download apps to your car, next section I read that you download an app to your phone and connect to the car. Which is it? Both? Look at the URL this page "appears" to be from 2013!! Really!

This doesn't help! and if you dig deeper it doesn't get any better...

BMW ConnectedDrive – a technology packet full of services and apps that connects you closely to the world around you. It makes tasks easier and quicker to perform, giving you more time for what’s really important: your family, friends and free time. Experience the many facets of BMW ConnectedDrive.

I shouldn't have to buy the car and use it to understand the feature. I should be able make sense of the BMW web site information. Marketing dropped the ball here. If you are a developer, try figuring out who in BMW to call if you want to offer your app on the BMW Connected Drive platform.

But guess what we have it all on our phones, we don't need separate gps, navigation, phone, hotspot, rear entertainment, camera, iPaq (PIM), etc. Nor do I want to manage my car separately just like I hated managing my phone, iPaq and Garmin.

That said they still have to pay the engineers to develop the integration and feed their families. I don't work for free and certainly do not expect them to. So for me $300 is a bargain, especially since I was bracing for the cost to be more around $500.

I guess it just goes down to expectations and to what you want your car for and I can very well do without all the gadgetry.

Apple Car Play can't be retrofitted at this moment..

My build date was set in the July time frame, Apple Car Play is now an option for 2017 models but for the ones being built in August going forward..

Dear Mr. Esteban:

Unfortunately Apple CarPlay was implemented in vehicles that were produced in August 2016 or later. Your M2 was produced on 7/21/2016. Additionally, at this time Apple CarPlay cannot be retrofitted.

We are sorry for any inconvenience,

Yeh but In Canada they are doing it so there must be a way even if the dealer won't do it for us.

this will really piss me off... car built end of july but was given assurances from dealer that it would be retrofitted come september. Only explanation i can think of is it needs the updated system..5.0...which our cars would not have. Maybe older systems cant be upgraded to 5.0...?

Are they doing it at the dealers in Canada?

I asked them if they could foresee doing it at a later date seeing they specified "at this time". Their response:

Dear Mr. Esteban:

Unfortunately we are not aware of any plan to retrofit Apple CarPlay in the future. However if it does become a possibility, your retail center would be notified of the details.

Not sure, I just asked them if they can confirm the version my build has.

I tried looking at the bmwusa.com page to see if it shows any details but the page seems to be down, maybe maintenance.

Verbally or did they send you an email with details?

I had a Pioneer with Apple Car Play in my last car and was really looking forward to having it in the M2 if it became available..

I certainly hope it can be retrofitted. Not for Apple Carplay (which is already part of my upcoming build) but for the potential of them adding Android Auto in the future. I want the ability to retrofit that to my vehicle.

Yeh there is a bulletin posted on this forum for Canada saying they will get a no cost retrofit. This is only for July build not MY2016.

Yes I have iDrive 5.0

Was the retrofit offered in Canada a software only upgrade or does some hardware need to be changed?
