1-8 PRESETS

I haven't used any of the PRESETS yet so I'm trying to get some ideas of what kind of set up you guys use?

This is me. But a few frequently used addresses

I also use spilt screen and have the Nav arrow direction on. It's a compass when not navigating. Main screen is usually CarPlay flicking between Phone and Spotify.

Is there a way with iDrive to set specific radio stations as favorites without eating up the physical 1-8 buttons?

Once you've set favorites, is there a way to cycle through them from the steering wheel, or at least with the idrive dial?

My PRESETS I ended up organizing

1-Sports display
2-work
3-gf
4- (planning on assigning TONE equalizer)
5-split screen w/ clock (wanted to just full screen clock but that only comes on with screen saver mode and it can't be assigned as PRESET unfortunately
6- (blank can't think of anything to assign)
7-Split screen MEDIA (No toggle on/off split screen...if there is a way please let me know. I'm gonna try to highlight split screen check box and assign to see if that works
8-Notifications

Yeah, there is. You can favourite your AM/FM channels by using the iDrive wheel. I'm at work, but basically you click left on the wheel while in FM/AM and go to favourites, then you can select a station and apply to a number. Those numbers are not the same as the 1-8 presets.

And then use ONE of your 8 presets to get to the favorites page, and you can have all of your favorite am/fm, sat stations choice list come up with one button.

What I don't like about the presets for stations is that it does not go back to that display. It only changes the station.

However, when in radio and selecting a preset for sport displays for example it of course jumps to that display but as stated above the reverse is not true.

Very cool, this is probably how I'll set mine up then. (I mostly listen to sat radio).

Is it possible to flip through the presets using anything on the steering wheel? Or does the wheel only do volume and phone stuff? I'm hoping the +/- on the right side might function as next/previous preset...

If you're in the presets mode, the thumb wheel on the steering wheel scrolls through your presets, and you see them in the dash display. Press down to select. +/- changes volume. The thumb wheel actually works for whatever mode you're in - it will scroll through tracks/stations/etc.

Also, presets can include whatever stations you want - SiriusXM and AM/FM - in the same list. Not sure about MP3 tracks or anything else though.

I haven't been able to get the sports displays to save as a preset. I get an error code. Thoughts?

You have to set the favorite on the menu screen that opens sport display. If you try and save it while the sport display is actually on, it gives that error (I had the same issue)

I have everything from my favorite Satellite Radio stations, USB, to checking oil level. These customized buttons are one of those under the radar fantastic features BMW provides as surprisingly few other automakers give you this much flexibility.

I have phone contacts, radio stations, TPMS, oil level check and sport displays in my presets. As mentioned above, this is a nice feature on BMWs. On my wish list for improvement:

1. When I start the car, my IDrive goes to the CarPlay screen but I have to navigate to the app that I want, open it, etc. It would be nice to be able to assign one of the CarPlay apps (say, Spotify) to one of the presets.
2. I have found that while CarPlay is selected, I cannot assign a phone contact to a preset button. Seems I can only do it after disabling CarPlay.

Button one is always turn off the center console display. I live rural and having less light in the cabin does wonders for driving the twisties in the pitch black.

1-6 - Phone numbers and Nav addresses.

7 - Toggle Nav Voice Instructions on or off.

8 - Nothing but I'm going to follow mrdstr lead and set it to shut off the display.
