I don't know you. You don't know me.

If I said I read something, I read it. My ego is not so fragile that I double down on anything. In fact, I have positioned myself in life to tell almost anyone in the world to go piss up a rope.

I read it. I would bet my only daughters' life on it. That is how sure I am. Please see the last sentence in the above paragraph and conduct yourself accordingly.

Oooh, a triple dog dare!

Sure you read it. People also believe the moon landing was faked, that GWB pushed the detonators on the explosives in the Twin Towers, and that Elvis shot JFK.

As an addendum, if you can find and link to said article, I will retract my statements and give you an apology. Otherwise, you are just looking more and more foolish.

No.
A fact. I'm not some kook. I am a veteran and a responsible member of society who has achieved much through clear headed thinking, hard work, being a member of great teams and a bit of luck. If I am wrong. I will apologize. But I am not.

The events that you mentioned are simply white noise and frankly, insulting.

I work in the scientific world. Your opinions don't matter to me, at all. Why don't you take the variables that I mentioned in the post and perform the calculation that I mentioned.

Cheers-mk
P.S. I have to go and take my brother, who is recovering from a stroke, back home. I'll deal with this insulting stupidity later.

See, here's the funny thing. I'm also a veteran, a retired Marine, in fact. (not that our veteran status has anything whatsoever to do with the conversation nor does your brother's stroke, both of which were obviously used to try and solicit sympathy/understanding, and both, completely, totally irrelevant)

What is relevant is that I have a BS in Physics and an MS in Comp Sci and have done the calculations you asked, well before you asked. KE=0.5mv^2, yeah, I know that one, and a couple of others, as well. The tree wins. The 928 loses. The tree even remains standing.

Well, if that were true, you probably wouldn't be responding.

I REMEMBERED reading it in one of those two mags and attempted to reference the report. This was the first reference I found.

Wow. Please read.

If necessary I can dust off my physics, look up the respective densities of the trees mentioned in the report, compute the amount of energy contained in a 1500kg object moving at approximately 80 m/s with an impact area of approximately 50 sq cm on a fixed object (the tree).

And please understand..except in the most dense of materials, there is more 'space' in a 'solid' material than actual material. Additionally, when extreme velocities and energy levels are involved, materials become plastic and as they say, 'almost anything goes'. This is how you end up with 2x4s penetrating trees during hurricanes and/or tornados.

Cheers-mk

Just in case you want to get confused with some facts from an actual magazine article from a trusted magazine, here is a link you should check out. Scroll to the bottom and you will see the result of a high speed crash of an M3 into a tree. Not a 18" tree mind you; just a whimpy little 12" tree that didn't budge while the M3 hit it so hard the M3 broke into 2 pieces.

No please go find a real source for this story from long ago so we can all learn the truth. No more physics lessons please.

BTW, RIP Daniel Portela

Can this get taken to PM (if needed, and it is probably not needed)?

I once read an article about arguing on the internet....

As for the intent of this thread, I would like the governor removed, as I have hit the limiter at the track on a handful of occasions. Sure, most tracks don't have enough running room for our cars to hit 155, but quite a few still do.

Lol. What tree density did you use?

Oh. You didn't.
Solve the entire problem if you can actually think for yourself. Next.
I don't need anyone's sympathy, especially yours. I was letting you and the other gentleman know that I was off doing something more important and would be back.

Again. Read.

An impact at the base of the tree, where the strength of the exposed tree is highest, is not what happened here. Additionally, the car's initial impact was, from the pictures, seems to be at the longitudinal midpoint (the middle of the side of the car). These situations are not analogous.

Whatever. Let us know when you actually find the article. Until then, its just your trusted source the guy named caranddriver lol.

I really do wish you well. Good night.

Generally running in the 2nd to highest gear will bypass the limiter. I did this in my M6 prior to having the car derestricted.

Wow. Again, read.
I got it from Rennlist and it was posted by a different user. Here is the link.

How does that posting on Rennlist prove anything? It is someone quoting a magazine article - not the magazine article.

Sigh.
I proved that his basic information is incorrect. I stated that I got it from Rennlist and the gentleman persisted in stating that it was from user caranddriver from an unknown board.

P.S. Do you need me to send you a chart of the densities of various species of trees? You will need it to complete your homework. Lol.

Although I did not think it was possible, your posts are deteriorating. Its really best that you step away from the keyboard and take a deep breath.

Reducing your discussion to what kind of specialist I need is really not necessary.

Good night. All the best to you.

Sure, send me a chart. Please send me all your equations, because right now, based on your posts and lack of understanding, I doubt you have even bothered to match units, much less understood all that is in play here.

You know what, though, don't bother. I don't need to bother to goad you into making you even less and less intelligent. You are doing a fine job yourself.

By the way, I thought you claimed you read about that incident in Car and Driver, or Road and Track? Still don't see a link to that. Rennlist doesn't count.

Fast enough for you?

I will contact the magazines in question and seek the news report.

Now...get to your homework. And the mere fact that you did not include the density of the species of wood in question tell me that you are not a thorough problem solver. It would be a basic variable and necessary to get the, 'answer' you claimed.

Cheers-mk

P.S. Please read my original Post #8. I later said where I originally read the article and that the Rennlist copy was the most convenient one. As I offered the other gentleman, please PM my your contact information and I will refer you to my mom to assist you in both reading and reading comprehension.
