This is to inform you about an important change of your Apple CarPlay Preparation option as part of BMW ConnectedDrive.

BMW Australia has announced that it will offer its customer the Apple CarPlay digital platform with an unlimited runtime as part of a global BMW initiative.

Here?s what this means for you:

As your vehicle is equipped with Apple CarPlay Preparation, BMW Australia is extending your support for CarPlay to be unlimited without interruption. This extension will be at no additional cost to you, and there is no action required on your side. The conversion to unlimited runtime Apple CarPlay will commence immediately. Full completion is expected by early 2020.

To use Apple CarPlay in your vehicle with your iPhone, you need to choose ?Apple CarPlay? as the connection mode for your mobile device in the Communication settings.

Should you have any questions, please contact info@bmw.com.au or call BMW Customer Care at - 133 BMW (133 269). You can check the current status of Apple CarPlay and ConnectedDrive services for your vehicle by visiting https://www.bmw-connecteddrive.com.au/.

Kind regards,
BMW Australia

You will need to still pay for the physical preparation. no different than when I paid 500 with car purchase. They are just waiving the subscription cost. That is my understanding.

Diehard huh? 😂

It's been like this for years.
You betcha. Old enough to remember when you could order all options individually.

I get the overall lower cost/better quality argument for bundled options and standard offerings. But it's a sad time.
Wow you actually found a way to moan about stuff that's free .... These forums never seem to disappoint

I prefer the BMW layout over Apple CarPlay, standard map is much better than Apple Nav and you can read your message on the iDrive.
I agree. I tried out Apple Car Play for a few months and it annoyed me more than was helpful. Maybe I wasn't using it properly, who knows. I may try again in the future if it's free now.

They refunded it without a problem. Plus it hadn't kicked in yet since my current subscription doesn't expire until January 14th.

Nice! Unfortunately my iDrive version is too new and requires ENET to upload the patch rather than USB.
