2021 M2 - is it's ECU locked?
Haven't got my car yet, delayed again, but read last evening that the 2021 ECU have been locked so you can't tune?? am REALLY hoping that is not the case but wanted to check, tried to search forms for it but did not come up with anything...... one the main reasons I bought this car was that it's supposed to be so easy to tune at some point in the future, bimmercode especially looks dead easy etc.

Pretty sure cars built after June of last year have a new Bosch ecu that is "uncrackable" and I believe it hasn't been cracked as of this point in time. There's a large thread in the s55 engine sub section of the m2 forums that is probably more up to date.

OK< thanks and will try another search but yikes, have to give this some real thought then, principal reason I ordered this car was supposedly how easy it was to tune ie: https://bimmercode.app/cars/bmw/2-series-m2/f22/

For example, using Bimmercode you can do things like turn off seat belt alarm, adjust the number of blinks on your blinkers, change the type of Equalizer parameters for your stereo and so on, all of which are already sitting in the cars modules. |

If the ecu is dated as 07/2020 or newer it is completely locked against tuning, via obd or on bench.

I'm confident they will crack it by the time my B2B warranty expires in 2024. Then it's time for a crank hub swap and a tune. Keep your warranty as long as possible for anything over 50k is my motto.

For now yes it's locked. But will be cracked sooner rather than later due to the S58 having the same security as us late model S55 guys. So maybe another year? But you can do things such as piggy backs and JB4. I'm probably gonna go BMS stage 1

To summarize
- Tuning = No, not bench unlockable either at the moment for the newest ECU's - Coding = Yes

I had my other (old) BMW in for a service today. The guys at the shop are pretty convinced that the lock is soon to be cracked. Not that I have any real interest in getting my M2 tuned as I think it's more than fast enough but for those interested there may be a light at the end of the tunnel.

all good stuff, thanks for the input, feeling a little better about it now, no plans to tune this year, but did want the option, one of the main reasons I decided on this car was the ease of bringing it up to what it was attuned from.....
