Thank god that they fixed it with the G models... the F models are really looking good, but for me, this could be a deal braker
The e39/e46 era had a very clean hoodline that integrated the grill into the hood. This visually hid the seam excellently.

I am sure this is more expensive to manufacture since it is a much “deeper” part to stamp and in more recent models they went back to the traditional “flat” hood with seam clearly visible.

Darker colors can help hide the seams better than white cars
I think it partially has to do with easier body shop repairs to minor front end hits. Integrated grille like e46 would mean hood replacement.

I understand tho that some want a new car with a warranty ect ect......but, they are missing out in my opinion!
driven both, not interested in the 1M. I had the chance on one a few years back at a delicious price...I couldn't get over the looks(subjective, I know but I have to be seen in public in that thing...)
And no, I'm not just saying it because I have an M2 or a M2C. I have passed on those too as its NOT QUITE there yet for me. BMW seems to be getting closer though. If a MANUAL CS/CSL or a g-coup become available I might be in, if not, my crack at the 2020 Cayman gt4 is coming soon. still on that damn waiting list.

They will easily reach $85k and above. Think about the M4 CS, it carries about a 41% premium over a M4 with Comp pack. The M4 already has a carbon trunk and carbon roof baked into the base price. Regardless of how well the CS and GTS sold in the US, the M2 is starting more bare bones minus some expensive carbon panels(hood/roof). Also the CS/GTS have sold well outside the US, GTS have held their values much better overseas. I don’t see US market dictating price of the M2 CS.

M4CS stickers about 37% over a M4 comp but is only selling for about 20% over. Most are going in the low 90s, even high 80s.

If I can have a M4CS in the high 80s why would I buy a M2CS in the high 80s?

Yes it's a different car, different buyer (to be clear, I'd love a M2CS but have no interest in a M4CS) however I don't think BMW is oblivious to how the pricing and positioning could be a problem.

I could be totally wrong. Just my 2 cents. I'll come back here when they release and buy you a beer if base MSRP is $85k+.

Legend In The Making

This car has got the potential to be the best M of this era. I really hope they make it drive as nice as the M3/M4 CS and not as technical (and scary) as the GTS.

Many have said it before but the price needs to be attractive and attainable as with the other versions of the M2 not crazy money like the CS/GTS.

Best part; no crazy wing in the back!

Was the GTS a disaster then? Why so?
The pricing of GTS was a disaster. At $130K, people expected a lot more than what it could deliver. Eventually dealers started offering steep discounts. I saw them go for as low as $95K brand new, never registered.
They offered steep discounts because it was supposed to be a limited car then BMW produced more which drove down the pricing.

It's not like they made thousands more to affect the prices that much. BMW ended up making ~100 more M4 GTS, which shouldn't cause a $35K price drop. Regardless, even if BMW had made only, say, 100 M4 GTS, it still wouldn't have been worth $130K. The problem of GTS isn't the exclusivity.

The truth is when they made more that's when the prices dropped. Not before. It had a direct effect on prices.

Someone tell BMW we're missing the fender and trunk from the parts bin.

Make this very last F generation M car more attractive at the end of its run.

It's already in the X3/4M for a debut I think?

To be fair, I don't think BMW will set their MSRP based on what is happening with the GTS or CS. The MSRPs all need to line up simultaneously and make sense otherwise the logic of the MSRPs over time will be chaotic. Especially as newer versions of those models get introduced over time.

If you look at the OG M2 vs the M3 as an example. People were getting M3's for less than M2s in some cases. That didn't mean that the MSRP of the M3 was brought down to the M2 price to compensate.

The A45 is mostly just an ugly car and as they keep pumping more power out of the 2.0 liter engine, it just makes the drivability worse and worse. I've read a bunch of reviews that speak to the lag present once moving along. The M2C even in non CS form is a much more attractive car from a few different variables imo.

CSL is not about hp, it'a about weight and chassi! But surely the S55 will be keep AS original hp from The F80, and not tunes down, like the competition model.

As good as the Merc is, I'd still prefer to drive the M2.

However I will say the Merc is perfectly great for crappy weather or daily driving.
