Yeah it kind of sucks for those who don't have CarPlay offered, which is almost as bad as charging for CarPlay when it comes standard on an entry level Kia/Hyundai.

Some people claim that CarPlay is now full screen in the new 2019 MY, directly from the factory.

I stopped by a local dealer today and attempted to verify this on a new vehicle built on 08/18 and have confirmed that screen is still limited.. At least here in North America, can't speak for the ROW.

If anyone else can prove otherwise, please share.

When I was at the dealer during pickup I quad checked that my car has the latest iDrive and was told that it was on the latest version.

My car was built on 10/25 and delivered 11/29

Which is only 3 weeks after mine. As far as i know there are already 3 or 4 newer levels than mine is. So you might expect that you are not on the latest level

I'm going to see if I can wait a year before upgrading(I'll nicely ask during my break in service). I have no complaints with how this works atm in full screen

I wish BMW would do the proper thing and give us a changelog with each version

Thanks for the video. Jumping through that many hoops to switch into or out of CarPlay is ridiculous. This is absolutely terrible functionality in a BMW. I'm sorry I spent $300 for Apple CarPlay in my '17 M2.

The issue seems to have gone away for me and the phone now consistently pairs withe the car. The gremlins seem to have gone away.

The latest idrive version is NBTevo_P - you do not want that version, if it is on that level I cannot help at the moment.

Version P does not activate out of the box.

To check if you can activate:

Go to the map screen, press the options button on the idrive controller, select Navigation Settings > Position and Version > Version Information

If it says NBTevo_N or O + some numbers, for example NBTevo_O18153l - then i can help you, if it says a letter less than N I can't help unless you get the headunit updated, I can assist with how to do that. If it says P then I'm not able to assist.

Hope that clarifies for anyone looking to activate.

As suspected mine is the P version :
We don't have the connect drive App Store can't even purchase it that way. Not sure if there a code I could purchase from the dealer

Anybody knows if the 6NS option would still need the WiFi part?

6NS is an older version of Enhanced Bluetooth, 6NW, 6CP or 6WD are the only options that would give the wi-fi antenna.

Enhanced BT can be coded without the need for the antenna.
