Could we get some more pictures, perhaps from further away?

What if we bought two mirrors from a crashed M3 or M4, would it be possible to attach them?

Those are nice looking. Way to have a solution before the car is even out!

I see the difference now. Also there is an angle difference between the 2-Series and M3/M4 mirror, that is why the stubby cannot get so close.

I also see where BMW had difficulties addressing this particular issue. It would have required them to come up with a brand new set of parts for just one car. Even though the concept renders had the mirrors included.

In the end I am not fully convinced yet, but I need a car next to me to see how it will look stock and how it will improve looks in total.

I think it would be good to have a final car in the coming months (early next year) and do a photo shoot to compare stock with your product. Not sure where you are situated in the UK, but if I am there with my M2 and I can help out feel free to drop me a message.

Personally, I'm not bothered by lack of M mirrors in M2 but wouldn't mind a e92/3 and 1M style mirror. It has a simple short solid stub, not a pointy wavy curvy one. Could anyone bother to photoshop one pls

Regardless of how they look, what about wind noise and aerodynamics. If the air doesn't flow over them well in a wind tunnel that would be a problem especially at high speeds.

This. I personally wouldn't bother with them as I think the stock looks fine. I'd rather blow my money on the coilovers and trunk spoiler.

I just had a 1M parked next to a M135i about an hour ago and the difference is annoying. The 1M mirrors look 10000x better than the ones on the M135i.

If only there was a way to fix this, then again I ordered my car so I am definitely buying one. I just like to tune it up to it is really like I want it to be.

Excerpt from a recent BMWBlog interview with M2 designer Al-Attar, tackling the M mirrors versus M235i mirrors topic too:
«We asked Al-Attar about some of the more controversial styling cues of the M2, as well, like the controversial issue with the lack of M mirrors. The M2 mirrors are pulled straight from the M235i while fans wanted the same mirrors from its bigger M brothers.
Al-Attar says that the team noticed during aerodynamics testing that the M mirrors actually fared worse than the M235i’s on the M2. This is likely due to the higher body of the M2 over the M3 or M4. So the M235i mirrors stayed because they offered superior aerodynamics.
The other reason for the lack of M mirrors is the need to differentiate between the M2 and the M4. “What we tried to do with the car is to keep a respectable distance from the M4; the car is very sporty, very fun to drive, but we wanted to keep the distance in positioning the car in the market,” Al-Attar mentioned."»

So the designer says they tested them but they fared worse when it came to aerodynamics. Even if they didn't they wouldn't use them as they wanted to differentiate the M2 and the M4. The engineers said it would cost to much to adapt them...

So basically a new excuse for each new person within BMW you ask.

Ah, maybe the M2 looked just too good with the 2er-adapted M3/M4 style mirrors ?

So everyone who thinks this isn't really an M car due to the lack of M mirrors should go buy the M4 for another $15K.

Just an FYI for those concerned with noise, I drove an X6M at very high speed over the weekend. The top part of the mirror did not connect to the car, similar I think to this option from OP. There was no issue, for what it's worth.

I'm sure someone will make some aftermarket thing so it looks like 'M mirrors'.

I wish for a moonroof. but if not i might just wrap the roof in CF and call it a day.

Its all to do with the side arm of the M3 and M4 Mirrors not being compatible with the 2er. It was designed to use the M mirrors but a fix added more cost.
Besides a mirror is a mirror it still has the same function.

Once and for all: who cares if these are or these are not "M" mirrors!

What's a Ferrari mirror? What's a Porsche mirror? Nobody knows and nobody cares!

Fictitious memo somewhere at BMW M HQ.
Points to note for the next-generation M2:
1. No recycling of stock mirrors of the regular model series on our M cars (for example M235i/M240i), even if proved aerodynamically superior.
Side mirrors are a basic design feature, contributing in defining the exterior look of our M cars. Our target public attaches more importance to this feature than we assumed. The use of stock mirrors on the M2 happened to attract way too much unwanted attention than expected from enthusiasts and car journalists. This controversy - though without merit according to our engineers, given our 'function over form' priority approach - partially distracts the focus from what really matters about our M cars.
2. [...]

I don't understand why people pay so much attention to the fact of "yes" or "no" M-mirrors. A M3 owner and friend of mine, with whom I went to the Brussels expo asked me : "did you notice something missing here, something about 750€ ???" Yes I said.., the mirrors ...

Only because it didn't cost them any more. It came straight out of the 1 series!
